Aside from the benefit of updating the look of your bathroom, new toilets can also help save money on water bills. From low flow toilets and dual flush toilets that require less water to remove waste, find cost reducing options for necessary upgrades. Whether you’re purchasing commercial or residential toilets, bidets or urinals, Ace has the models and expertise you need.

What’s the Difference Between a Toilet and a Bidet?

A bidet is a specialized toilet that shoots a targeted stream of water at you when you’re finished going to the bathroom. A toilet is… just a toilet. Bidets make it easier to clean yourself more thoroughly and can help you save money on toilet paper. Shop Ace for a toilet and bidet, a handheld bidet, or a bidet kit to easily convert your standard toilet.

Different Types of Toilets

There are a few different types of toilets available, but two-piece and one-piece toilet models are readily available.

  • Two-piece residential toilet: The most common type of toilet is the two-piece model that’s easy to move and install. Two-piece toilets feature a bowl/seat piece and the tank piece.
  • One-piece complete toilet: One-piece toilets feature a connected tank and bowl and are typically easier to clean. However, they are not as easy to transport and install.

Toilet Shapes, Seats and Heights

The shape of a toilet refers to its bowl. Elongated toilet bowls jut out two to three inches farther than round toilet bowls, and many people find them more comfortable. Round toilet bowls are more compact and ideal for smaller bathrooms.

Standard toilet seats are typically 15 to 17 inches high and are the most common residential toilets. However, toilets are also available in chair heights (about 17 to 19 inches high) and are ideal for people with limited mobility.

Toilet seats follow the shape of the bowl, whether elongated or circular. Not all toilets come with seats, but if you know the bowl shape, it’s easy to order a seat separately—and that gives you the opportunity to get a seat that’s heated, padded or built to close slowly and softly.

Toilet Flush Mechanism

A variety of flush mechanisms are available on many toilet models. Different mechanisms have different features and benefits, from common residential gravity flush toilets to water saving models and more.

Gravity Flush

Gravity flush residential toilets are the most common in homes. These toilets use the weight of the water in the tank to create the pressure that makes the toilet flush.

Pressure-assisted Flush

Pressure-assisted flush toilets feature an air-compression tank that forces waste down with more pressure than a gravity flush toilet. Although pressure-assisted flush toilets are louder than gravity flush toilets, they’re less likely to clog.

Siphon Jet Flush

Siphon jet flush toilets feature a curved trapway in the base that’s similar to a sink drain in that it prevents sewer gases from moving up the pipes and into the bathroom. The water in the toilet tank empties rapidly into the trapway and creates a siphoning effect to carry away wastewater.

Touchless Flush

Touchless flush mechanisms are activated by a motion sensor and flush automatically when you move away from the bowl. These are ideal for commercial settings as they help reduce the spread of germs.

Dual-flush

Dual-flush toilets offer a partial flush option for liquid-only use and a full flush option for solid waste. The partial vs full flush option makes dual-flush toilets a great water-saving toilet.

For more water-saving options, look for WaterSense rated toilets. WaterSense models are certified to use at least 20% less water than standard flush toilets, saving energy while maintaining or improving performance.
