About Dryer Heat Savers / Lint Trap
It’s important to inspect your home on a regular basis to assess any potential fire hazards. One commonly overlooked area in these walk-throughs is the dryer vent. Most people anticipate there will be lint to remove from their in-unit dryer lint traps, but additional lint particles escape through the dryer vent hose. Over time this lint can accumulate and become a potential fire hazard as well.
Keep this from becoming issue by tending to your vent hose with a dryer vent cleaner at least once every two years. Dryer vent cleaning kits typically include a long wire brush that can enter one end of the vent hose and extend all of the way through. Upon rotating the brush through a couple times, if you find most of the debris has been removed, you’re good to go until the next cleaning.
If your dryer unit doesn’t have an exhaust hose leading outdoors, connect your vent hose to an external dryer vent lint trap. These lint traps are designed to vent the dryer indoors without requiring you to cut or drill any additional holes in the unit.
