Canning jars, often referred to as mason jars, are essentially durable glass jars with a two-piece cover. The two-piece cover consists of a lid and a ring. The ring holds the lid in place and helps to create a vacuum seal which aids in preserving the product inside. Canning lids are also sold separately if you plan to re-use your jars through several canning seasons.

Canning jars and lids are available in multiple sizes and feature both regular and wide-mouth designs. Wide-mouth jars are ideal for recipes using whole fruits, vegetables or meats. Regular mouth jars are best for jams, jellies and pourable sauces. Both designs are available in various ounce capacities.
