Mauls

Axes are good for chopping wood or clearing brush, but when you need to split large pieces of wood mauls are designed to aid in that process. Wood splitting mauls have an end with two functions – the sharp side starts a split in a piece of wood and when you mount the split end on a splitting wedge, the other flat side of the maul is used to pound the wood down to quickly complete that split.

Though you may need to replace their handles over long periods of use, splitting mauls can last a lifetime. Just remember to use the proper safety equipment before you start splitting that next cord of firewood. For more information, check out our splitting tools guide.
