Your actions the first few moments after a spill determine how successful you are at carpet stain removal. It’s important to use a cloth or paper towel to pick up and absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Be careful to blot and avoid rubbing the area. Next, apply a stain remover to the location. Many stain removal products require some time to break down the spilled material. Blot the area again or lay an absorbent towel back down. Placing a heavy object over the towel should help the residual material be absorbed. Repeat these steps as necessary.

If the affected location is relatively small, a spot remover should do the trick. However, if the spill covers a large area, consider treating the spill with a carpet shampooer.
