Installing Telephone Jacks

ACE offers a unique and innovative solution to the connection of phone jacks for both new construction and existing buildings or existing residential homes. With color coded wires and color coded screws on the phone jack itself, category wire (stripes and solids) found in most new construction or telephone wire (solids - red, green, black, yellow) in many existing buildings or homes can easily be installed without confusion.

4-Conductor Single (1-2 Lines) Jack

A 4-conductor jack will accommodate up to two telephone lines. When using two telephone lines, these multi-lines must be provided to a home or building by the telephone company (service provider).

• For buildings with standard 4-conductor telephone station wire with solid colors (red, green, black, yellow): Match solid color wires from building to color-coded screws on back of wall plate. (FIG 1)
• For buildings with Category Level Wiring (striped and solid colors): Match wiring (Cat. 3, Cat. 5, Cat 6-solid and striped) from building to like wiring on back of wall plate. (FIG 2)
• Connect the 4 wires to appropriate terminal posts as described above.
• Be certain all screw terminals are securely tightened.
• Position jack against electrical box and mount with two screws provided. (FIG 3)

When connecting phone jack, be sure to connect line 1 and line 2 as described in the chart below:

4-Conductor Dual (1-2 Lines) Jack

A 4-conductor dual jack will accommodate up to two telephone lines per jack and provides two jacks (dual) combined into one wall plate/surface mount. When using two telephone lines, these multi-lines must be provided to a home or building by the telephone company (service provider).

• For buildings with standard 4-conductor telephone station wire with solid colors (red, green, black, yellow): Match solid color wires from building to color-coded screws on back of wall plate. (FIG 1)
• For buildings with Category Level Wiring (striped and solid colors): Match wiring (Cat. 3, Cat. 5, Cat 6-solid and striped) from building to like wiring on back of wall plate. (FIG 2)
• Connect the 4 wires to appropriate terminal posts as described above.
• Be certain all screw terminals are securely tightened.
• Position jack against electrical box and mount with two screws provided. (FIG 3)

Dual jacks are often used to operate two telephone devices from one wall plate.

When connecting phone jack, be sure to connect line 1 and line 2 as described in the chart below:

6-Conductor Single (1-3 Lines) Jack

A 6-conductor single jack will accommodate up to three lines per jack. When using multi-telephone lines, these multi-lines must be provided to a home or building by the telephone company (service provider). The 6-conductor jack is very common for home office and small business applications. (e.g.) When combined with a 6-conductor triplex adapter, ACE No. 3165164 or 3105202, three different telephone devices can independently operate each with a separate phone line.

Hook Up Instructions

For 4-Conductor Hookup (1-2 Lines)

• For buildings with standard 4-conductor telephone station wire with solid colors (red, green, black, yellow): Match solid color wires from building to color-coded screws on back of wall plate. (FIG.1)

Note that maximum number of lines in an existing building with 4-conductor wiring is two lines

• For buildings with Category Level Wiring (striped and solid colors): Match wiring (Cat. 3, Cat. 5, Cat 6-solid and striped) from building to like wiring on back of wall plate. (FIG. 1)
• Connect the wires to appropriate terminal posts as described above.
• Be certain all screw terminals are securely tightened.

For 6-Conductor Hookup (1-3 Lines)

• Reference "Hook Up Matrix" below for 3 line hookups.
• Connect the wires to appropriate terminal posts as described in "Hook Up Matrix" and (FIG.1).
• Be certain all screw terminals are securely tightened.
• Position jack against electrical box and mount with two screws provided. (FIG. 2)

When connecting phone jack, be sure to connect line 1, line 2 and line 3 as described in the chart below:

6-Conductor Dual (1-3 Lines) Jack

A 6-conductor dual jack will accommodate up to three lines per jack and provides two jacks (dual) combined into one wall plate/surface mount. When using multi-telephones lines, these multi-lines must be provided to a home or building by the telephone company (service provider). Dual jacks are often used to operate several telephone devices from one wall plate.

• Connect the wires to appropriate terminal posts as described in "Hook Up Matrix." (FIG.1)

For 6-Conductor Hookups

• Reference "Hook Up Matrix" below for 3 line hookups.
• Connect the wires to appropriate terminal posts as described in "Hook Up Matrix." (FIG.1)
• Be certain all screw terminals are securely tightened.
• Position jack against electrical box and mount with two screws provided. (FIG. 2)

Telephone jack adapters enhance the flexibility for single and dual telephone jacks when connecting multiple telephones at a specific location in a room or office. Ace product offering includes five different adapter options.

Modular "T" Duplex Adapter

When used with a single or dual telephone jack(s), this adapter increases the specific function of the telephone jack by two.

Two-Line Duplex Adapter

This two-line duplex adapter is used with 4-conductor jacks to separate line one (L1) and line two (L2). Converts a two line system into two single line outlets. Ideal when it is desired to separate telephone devices by telephone line number.

Modular Triplex Adapter

When used with a single or dual telephone jack(s), this adapter increases the specific function of the telephone jack by three. Ace product offering includes adapter for 4-conductor. Not to be used for 6-conductor.

Two-Line Modular Triplex Adapter

This adapter is used with a 4-conductor two line telephone jack. Adapter position one separates line one (L1), adapter position two separates line two (L2), and adapter position three combines lines one and two (L1 + L2).

Three-Line Modular Triplex Adapter

This adapter is used with a 6-conductor three line telephone jack. Used to split the three lines into line 1, line 2, line 3. Ideal when it is desired to separate telephone devices by telephone line number. Adapter position one becomes line one (L1), position two becomes line two (L2), and position three becomes line three (L3).
