As far as trimming, it worked great for the two mail box posts that I trimmed around. Unfortunately, I have no idea how it works around other trim items. It ran out of line, so I returned it to the store I bought it from before I wasted any more time or money on it.
Sorry Black & Decker - you blew it on this one!

Use the trimmer to trim around fence, rocks other yard items. I have had two different models and problems with both. The first one the gear broke 2 times. The 2nd unit, an upgrade, the main gear is plastic, non-replaceable and it melted from the belt running on it. To replace it you have to purchase the complete motor. The cost was about $20.00 less than a new trimmer..
Would not recommend it to anyone.

I am an older woman an this was perfect for me, worked so well I didnt mind dragging the cord. It doesnt use all that much line if you do not get to close to objects, you do not need to be right on top of them to have it cut close. It is light so it doesnt make my back or arms hurt. It does all it says an then some. If your use to a gas an heavy duty trimmer, dont buy this an expect the same. I have loved an used this on a weekly or bi-weekly lawn care regimen for 6yrs an I couldnt be happier with it. Even does well around chainlink fencing, if you dont get right up on it, there is no need for close up, the line does that for you.

The gear failed under normal use in trimming moderately tall weeds (10 to 12inches).

This trimmer was a replacement of the one I had. Said it was an upgrade. I was very disappointed. Been doing my own lawn for many years. Found one just like the one I had which is a 'single' line trimmer grasshog electric. Luckily, I found one which is 'new'.

I use the wire guide to make sure I don't end up using loads of line by hitting things that cut line. It works great along the side the house and going down the fence-fine. It also does a decent job of edging the grass (not the sod) at the edge of the lawn where it ends and then drops down a couple inches to my bedding annuals - Use the wire guide so you don't rip up the dirt and sod that can use up your line if you aren't careful.

Very powerful for electric trimmer. Uses lots of trimming line. Too powerful for gear that links motor to drive shaft. Gear failed within a few months of routine use. Replacing gear was too expensive. Replaced with lighter duty battery powered B&D model. Less power, but adequate for my needs and it goes a whole season on one fill of line since it only feeds out one line and doesn't waste much.

I have tried different models of these trimmers. I had one that I liked that was a single line trimmer that I guess is no longer available. I have used the refills from the store, I have wound my own, I have done nearly everything I can think of. To get down one side of my standard driveway, I go through an entire spool. The smaller ones are not heavy-duty enough. I discourage anyone from purchasing these trimmers. I will be trying to find what I want made by another manufacturer. In place of trimming, I have now have to use my edger.
