I am very impressed with the mower. Particularly, I was surprised how easy and little effort it was to push and adjust the height of the mower. I have about an 1/8 of an acre weedy yard, and overall it did a great job mowing all types of grasses and other weeds. However, the mower was not able to cut some types of weedy grasses that produce long seed stalks (≥12 inches). So the few leftovers (which were not many) I had to cut them manually with a pair shears; no big deal. The reason that these grasses got long was because my gas lawn mower had died, which is another great feature of the mower; no more gas, oil and fumes! The mower is also amazingly silent.

What persuaded me to buy this mower over a less-expensive, American-made one is its maximum cutting height of 4 inches, and that's where I set it. This setting makes mowing my rough yard easier, benefits the grass, and enables me to mow along the curb.

Having used the mower for four and a half months now, I am satisfied with it. If I remember correctly, assembly took about 30 minutes and the adjustment took less than 45. However, the blades jammed three times during the first three months of use, but I believe that I've found ways to avoid this problem.

First of all, I changed my mowing pattern for smoother travel, and I tilt the mower back when crossing a walkway. The last time that I adjusted the blades, which was after the third jamming incident, I loosened all four locking bolts and adjusted both sides until the blades were close enough to grab the paper. Adjusting only one side, I think, creates tension in the rotary cutter frame. That tension is released when the front or rear wheels of the mower are impacted by a hard surface such as a walkway.

Another measure that I take to prevent jams is to ensure that the locking bolts are tight before I begin mowing. Before checking the bolts, I spin the rotary cutter to ensure that the blades aren't touching.

Despite these measures, however, I still fear that the mower will jam again, and I don't like having to take the time to re-adjust the blades when I have many other chores and errands planned for the day. I think that the adjustment mechanism could be improved for better stability.

For best results, I recommend first mowing in a clockwise pattern four times around the perimeter of your yard, and then mowing back-and-forth in one direction, and finally back-and-forth in a perpendicular direction. You could mow in an east-west pattern, for example, and then proceed in a north-south pattern. However, I still get good results by mowing in only one direction. My mower cuts St. Augustine, Bermuda, and crab grasses equally well.

Finally, I have found that if the blades firmly grab the paper, then the mower will cut grass. Grass, I think, is thicker than paper, so this makes sense.

I would recommend this mower to a friend only if that person has sufficient skill and patience to adjust the cutting mechanism.

Comments about Fiskars(r) 18in Momentum Reel Mower (62016935):

My husband and I purchased this mower for our first home. The yard is relatively small, less than a quarter acre. We were a bit worried that it would not be able to make the first run on our new lawn as it had grown out quite a bit while we finished closing on the house. However it worked great! It was an adjustment for my husband, who has always used a gas powered mower, but now he is a pro! Anything different is an adjustment.

I was also a bit worried that our lawn might look different than our neighbors who use either electric or gas powered mowers, but again, this was not the case.

Some reviews said that this mower would not be ideal for yards with hills, our yard has several inclined areas and it cut just fine. My husband does not think I will have the woman power to do this hills, but I welcome the challenge and will appreciate the workout!!

We were very pleased after the first use. I love that it is a quiet mower (you hear almost nothing, just the blades slicing the grass, which is actually a refreshing sound compared to other noisier mowers) so we can mow at just about any time of the day without bothering neighbors. It is less work than a mower that bags as this just mulches the grass blades. It is healthier for the lawn and for the earth, so I am really having a hard time finding any cons about this mower.

We do have a bit of landscaping in our yard so we purchased an electric trimmer as the mower did not seem capable of getting in close to these areas. We read later that one of the sides of the mower (I think the left) is designed to get in closer for trimming, so perhaps we will only need the trimmer for very fine detail things.

Overall, we are very pleased. We had the neighbor boys already stop and stare saying "Look at that cool mower".

I would recommend this mower to everyone, so that we can have quieter and greener neighborhoods.

Quiet and smooth. The chain driven (I think it's chain) freewheel blade is a great design cause it let's you give a good push that gets the blade spinning and direct the cut to small areas without constant forward movement. Cuts very clean. Easy to adjust. It's brand new so can't speak about maintenance but it looks very well built so maintenance should be a cinch. It does take a little effort to get it moving but once you're rolling it's nothing. If you think this mover is hard to push you might need a riding one.

This mower would be great if you had a perfectly flat lawn that was 100% turf and looked great. My lawn is not perfect (like most people) and is mostly a gradual incline up a hill. This mower is impossible to push up hill. It bogs out and if you set the blades low it will get catch the dirt under the grass-completely stopping the reel. When it would push smoothly, it refused to cut the grass evenly. I could cut my lawn better if I were blind and had a weed wacker. I would not recommend this mower to anyone. Steer clear and look for a better green option. Mine is going back.

Comments about Fiskars(r) 18in Momentum Reel Mower (62016935):

This mower is pretty awesome and for the price, you can't beat it. My self-propelled Honda mower of 10 years finally died on me and I needed a replacement. My wife suggested this mower because she wanted to help out mowing the lawn, but she wanted somenthing earth friendly. This mower happened to be the first reel mower we looked into. Before purchasing this mower on [@], I ended up borrowing my neighbors push mower to finish mowing my back yard. The pusher mower was a craftsman and was fairly light for a mower. My back yard isn't too big, so I was able to finish mowing in about ten minutes. My Honda being self-propelled took about 15 - 20 minutes depending how long i let the grass grow. Using the push mower opened my eyes to just how fast you can really mow your lawn without the self-propelled feature. Back to the Fiskars, I went ahead and ordered the Fiskars for [$] on [@] with free shipping. It arrived in about 3 days. I assembled immediately. Assembly was less than 15 minutes and we were ready to mow. The only thing was, it rained. We ended up waiting a few days. Mowing day finally came upon us and WOW. It mows pretty effortlessly, very comfortable mowing at the right height and pretty fast. A little effort does need to be exerted when going through a thick patch, but with the right amount of momentum, it blasted through easily. My wife tried and enjoyed using it too. My nine year son even joined in. Pros: easy to assemble, easy height adjustment, fairly easy to push dictated by how much effort and speed is exerted, cuts neatly, very safe to use (my nine year mowed with it with guidance of course), no gas, no fumes, no allergens getting sprayed all over my face. Cons: Does not cut tall weeds all the time (requires a few passes when it does work). I end up just pulling them out by hand. That's it in a nut shell. It's not for everyone, but it definitely is for my family. Great product. What once took me about an hour to do, I can now do in half the time. I have a corner lot so my front lawn considerably bigger than the back.

First time to use a reel mower and chose the Fiskars based on some research online. Very happy with the ease of use and quality of the mowing. Hit a bump and a pin fell off, but I had some spares...might have been my fault for the setting. Being able to set the handle in 4 optional ways is a great feature, however. Not any more difficult to push around than the old electric we had prior to this one, and this is an even "greener" choice.

This mower is very light! It can be hard to push (for my wife, but not for me) through VERY thick, long, dense grass....but other than that it's easy. Adjusting the cut height is very easy as well. It's also very quiet.

The one 'CON' I would say is that it does leave SOME spots uncut if you only do one pass. If you're not very particular about your yard...it probably won't bother you. If you are...it's nothing a few selective second passes can't correct.
