Love these chairs, they were easy to assemble, great directions, love that they provided extra parts just in case! There is only one flaw. I specifically wanted wood so I could stain to match my deck. As with any wood product, you have to be prepared for flaws. Now it was great that they filled these flaws with wood putty and sanded so they were hardly even noticeable, but if you are staining, wood putty doesn't take stain! so for those spots that had the wood putty, it wasn't great for taking stain.

Right after opening the package picking up the first piece, the wood filler fell out of the board. Throughout the pieces had LOTS of wood fillings. The wood (expect one or two key pieces) ae very light pine wood, right out of the box a few where split along the wood grain. I decided to spray paint every piece before assembly and I did so. The wood would just suck in my spray paint like a sponge. After drying time I did assemble the chair. It was fairly easy the guide holes where very helpful. I used a hand help Philips screw driver as to not over tighten and break the whimsical wood.
The assembly took me about 1 hour. As soon I moved the chair the back rail (moving part) the wood split.
I also found out that you should not be over about 200lbs or you will not fit in this chair.
All in all, the chair (now in bright red) looks very good, but I am afraid to use it. It will make a nice pot stand in the future.
I will try to return the second unopened chair pack.
Will attempt to make my own from better wood, I have a Dremel
:)

Seat width is only 19 inches, between the arm rest there is only 15 inches to get in to it.

Hope this helps!

Comments about MERRY GARDEN Living Accents Folding Adirondack Chair:

I love the design of Adirondack chairs; they are classic and generally comfortable to sit in.We have moved a pair my husband built from scratch from Oklahoma to four different locations in Texas. We painted them and made minor repairs over the years. This year one of them finally gave up the ghost when I went to paint it for the third time. My DH is now twenty plus years older now than when he built these but we wanted Adirondack chairs for the park/playground of our home so I found these chairs online. Just to be safe I ordered one with plans to purchase at least one more. That it would fold for storage was a plus. We were told they had one in stock about 18 miles away so went to pick it up. I was looking elsewhere in the store when they brought it out telling my husband it was already assembled. He was thrilled. They carried it to our car. At home we lifted it out and set it on the garage floor... First, the arms were poorly assembled being inset into the seating area of the chair rather than resting on the supports. Second, there was a long drip of paint down the back of the cha. Third, and most frightening it wobbled from front to back from side to side: extremely. There was no way that we would sit in that chair or allow a guest to sit in it. Back it went to the store that nicely refunded our money.

After 11 years I am replacing these chairs with the same ones. Had I painted my old ones I probably wouldn't need to replace them yet. I find that the slightly curved back makes these more comfortable than others I've sat in. I don't remember having much difficulty assembling them. A plus is that they are easy to store.

Comments about MERRY GARDEN Living Accents Folding Adirondack Chair:

The design is attractive and reviews on-line are good and they had one in stock at a nearby Ace. We went to pick it up and they very nicely carried it out to the car for us: already assembled. DH likes to find a good deal and was glad not to have to assemble. We got it home and unloaded it from the car. Obviously this had been a display item. It was poorly assembled (arm caps were inset into the seating area instead of resting on the supports for example) reducing the seating area.) There was a drip of white paint on the front of the backrest. And, what was really frightening, it wobbled from side to side, from front to back and from side to back. I would be frightened to sit in it myself much less let a guest. I wouldn't want the liability for possible injury. It goes back today and we are out the cost of fuel to drive back and forth to this store which is not particularly close. Had it come unassembled and we built it ourselves we might have been pleased with it enough to use it. However, it is cheap wood and lacks the graceful but utilitarian lines of the typical adirondack chair. I fear it would not hold up more than a season--a sad comment since we have one such chair that my husband made from scratch over 18 years ago that is still functioning with a couple of repairs and a couple of paint jobs over the years. (Note he is not a carpenter and is only a very average do-it-your-selfer.)

Received for a birthday gift 3 years ago from my daughters, wasn't hard to put together, group project with fun thrown in, so time is uncertain. we painted it added a logo and teak oiled the chair. Three years later still looks new, is used often, always outside, had to tighten screws this passed winter. But I personally love it and about to buy three more two already painted and one unfinished.

Comments about MERRY GARDEN Living Accents Folding Adirondack Chair:

I found this to be of good quality and assembly was straightforward. That being said, I didn't like the way the two handles were screwed from underneath. It was wobbly and didn't make sense.

I used finishing screws and Liquid Nail to glue the handle and screw it down from the top. The screw head sank into the wood and wood putty was used to patch it up. If needed I could add an additional piece of wood underneath to widen the support base.

I did have to redo the back support. I didn't realize it was crocked until I was done assembling. Something to keep in mind--set the first 3 pieces straight and you'll be fine.

I am going to order another to make it a pair. I plan to spray paint them.

I ordered 2 of these chairs and the ottomans to go with them. For the price, I thought they were an amazing find. I have looked at other adirondak chairs for a while and was a little afraid these would be junk. I have been pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and attractive they are. I bought them last year and have returned to Ace website to purchase 2 more. I am hesitant about letting them sit on the back deck in the weather because of rot, so I am protecting them by keeping them on the covered porch. My husband assembled them for me (he's the best), and he didn't say anything about the holes not lining up. He is a building inspector so he would have noticed and commented on it for sure.

They make bad cuts and had bad wood. They used a wood filler that you cannot stain. Makes the chairs look really bad. You get what you pay for, so if you want nice looking chairs these are not the ones for you.

I purchased my chair last year and one for my son it was easy to put together. I have a covered patio so it's not directly out in the elements. This spring I painted it white and purchased an ottoman (unfortunately it cost more than the chair) but both pieces look great together.

The hardware, especially bolts, are cheap and strip veryyy easily. The starter holes for the screws are not precise, which makes assembly far more difficult than necessary. If you can afford a better product, buy it; this chair is not worth the savings.

The guide holes, especially for the back of the chair, do not line up well and are not equally spaced. It makes them look laughable. You'd think the person putting them together had made a mistake, but no, that's where the screws are supposed to go. They also use, as other reviewers have mentioned, wood filler in many of the pieces which won't stain evenly. I'm amazed that these chairs get such high ratings, because they look awful. The wood is so soft, too, that I feel like they are going to break the moment I sit in them. I'm upset that I can only get store credit if I return them, so I'll try to sell them myself but I don't know who wants these wonky things.

When we stained it, the wood filler does not take stain so had big spots in places that looked bad. We had to get out the power sander and remove all the wood filler overage they did not wipe off, and restain.

I bought three of these chairs, knowing I was going to have to stain and poly them for weather protection. The first chair was in great condition, not too many sharp burrs that needed to be sanded, etc. I was really pleased. The second two chairs... Not so great. Many of the pieces had obviously been filled to hide/repair imperfections but that it stainable or paintable wood filler. Cutting costs by not having to throw out product is understood, but some of those pieces really needed to be tossed out. I've made do, but I wasn't super thrilled with that aspect. The chairs do need cushioning of some short for the lower back. I recommend them for the price, but make sure you look over the pieces carefully before staining and putting together. (This was a project for my two teens to work on this summer, so they stained prior to my looking everything over.)

I bought two of these chairs two years ago and stained, varnished and assembled them myself. The chairs sit the back patio (afternoon shade) are used every day. I live in desert country and stored the chairs folded in the garage over the winters. In their third summer they are still comfortable but showing nicks in the finish so I'm thinking they will last another couple of years at most. For the price, for a do-it-yourselfer, these cannot be beat. For the long haul, I'm thinking about buying polywood.

I have purchased these chairs for many years around Memorial day. They always have a decent price. The previous versions were a bit sturdier, but this one will do. Fairly easy to put together. A cordless drill is very helpful. Need to preserve the wood.

I ordered 2 chairs... I was impressed assembling the first, parts lined up well during assembly and the quality of the wood was decent... the second chair was a different story, with the wood of lesser quality (many patches with wood fill and one piece splitting) and the parts less well made. It appears to me that the chairs may be fabricated in several different factories, hence the widely varying build quality. Also, the size of the chair is a bit more compact than a normal Adirondack chair... I fit fine, but more ample (and wide) builds may find the seat a bit tight.

I purchased 2 chairs and an ottoman to replace old chairs. I took the advice of several posters and painted before assembly. It's a tedious process but undoubtedly worth it unless you have a paint sprayer. I was pleased that extra screws and bolts were included. The instructions called for slightly pre-screwing all holes, which I didn't do and wish I had. Some were so faint as to be indiscernible after painting. In fact I'm not certain the arm rests had pre-drilled holes and it difficult to "position" them properly. I did wait to tighten all the screws until the end and have had no problems with the stability of the chairs. They are a little more narrow and a little more upright than the chairs I replaced but this is not a problem for us. Delivery was very fast and assembly relatively easy. Excellent buy for the price.

I bought two of these chairs, but painted and assembled only one and will return the other. I read the previous reviews that the chair was not very sturdy and not big, but for the price, I figured I knew was I was getting myself into. I painted on two coats of a solid stain before assembling. My husband and I assembled it together and I definitely think it is a two person job. The wood split on one section for absolutely no reason. After assembly, I sat in it very carefully-did not feel like it would hold my weight. My husband is a big guy and he sat in it and the chair literally disappeared behind him. MUCH, much too small for a 6'3, 250+ man. Even though the stated weight limit is 300 lbs, my husband did not feel comfortable in it or think it would have held his weight over time. Obviously for $50, you get what you pay for ...especially when retailers are selling these for anywhere from $150-$300. Plus, we couldn't have purchased the materials separately for less than $50. I'm glad I bought it, but I'm going to purchase the ottoman to gain some more leg room. I'm 5'9 and the seat on this chair doesn't even come to halfway down my thighs. We'll see how it lasts the rest of the summer. I like the folding feature for storage. I caution any future buyers of this chair that it is pretty small and might not hold your weight!

Bought six of these chairs to use in a firepit area. I should've bought one and tried it out first before taking the plunge and buying all six. The wood is thin and cheap. I still thought I'd give them a shot. I painted 3 of them and then put them together after letting the paint dry for a week. The chairs let me down. They are VERY WOBBLY, even after adjusting the tightness of the screws after a few uses. A couple of the back pieces split by just normal use of maybe 5 times. I didn't even bother to get the other 3 out of the boxes. I thought the folding feature would make up for any con, but they just don't fold up tight enough to justify the loss in stability of a standard Adirondack chair, and take up way too much storage space. Don't waste your money on these; spend a little more and get a sturdy and solid Adirondack chair. I'm leaning toward a composite wood look chair so I won't have to compromise storage area or stability.

These chairs are nicely made, the instructions easy to follow, and the result is beautiful chairs to sit in. I love the smell of wood and the aroma that wafts out when you open the box is amazing.

I stained mine before assembling like so many other reviewers had advised and that worked well for us.

The only negative I have - and I'm not sure it's a true negative, really, I just had different size expectations - these chairs are not the big, comfy, Adirondacks you slide into and lounge about for hours. These are the petite version of it, the seat is not as deep, doesn't even hit the back of my knees when my butt is to the back and I'm only 5'2", and the front of the chair isn't high off the ground - there isn't a real deep angle from thigh to hip to knee, your thighs are barely at an angle when sitting. I was looking for the larger variety, but these would be perfect for children or elderly people that can't get their hips to work that deep angle anymore. Other than that, they are beautiful and extremely well priced.

Our only problem. we bought a bunch of these years ago. Back then, Ace offered the small table that attached 2 chairs together( Which also had a Umbrella hole drilled in it!) Really an awesome little addition! BUT we can't find them anymore! we still have a few sets to put together and would like more of these little tables that connect a set of 2 chairs together!
