I've used these filters for a year or so, never any odor or problem. Seems to filter a lot of dust at a reasonable cost.

This is the filter I have used for many many years. I just had a new Heat Pump/Air Conditioner installed. The HVAC installer saw my filters in the furnace room, and said that is the filter he reccomends. I have never had a bad odor from using this filter. There is nothing in the filter that could even cause an odor.

I installed this filter yesterday and there was a horrible smell like burning rubber when the furnace kicked on. I told this story to a friend, and she pulled out the same filter and said hers also smelled like burnt plastic! It's too soon to tell the overall quality of the filter, or if the smell will burn off, but right now it's pretty bad.
