This is my first upgrade from a cheap vertical barrel style smoker that I started out with 5 years ago. This thing is a beast. Heavy duty, pretty well constructed, minimal issues with the seal around the doors to the grill and fire box; this smoker definitely met my expectations. I've only had it a few weeks but it seems to be sturdy enough... although I may look for a cover to keep it from getting rained/snowed on throughout the year. I smoked 20 pounds of meat last weekend at once and it all came out excellent, I am very pleased.

We got the offset smoker for smoking. It is also a huge grill, which we have always missed with our Big Green Egg.
We have used it with Kingsford Competition Briquettes, and with regular oak wood from the yard. It takes a lot of fuel for a grill this big, so be warned.
We've smoked/grilled some pork ribs, and they were excellent. We have also made smoked bacon. It was the best bacon we've ever tasted, and we've been making bacon for years.

I've been smoking meats for about 25 years. I've owned several smokers, just never invested in a better one. My last one was a Brinkman vertical and it was okay, but I knew when it was time to get another, I wanted this one. I brought it home myself, and put it together myself but I'm a big man. I burned a very hot mesquite fire in it all day long the first day to season it and get the paint smell out then the second day cooked pork spare ribs. They were awesome. second day beef brisket, awesome. Love this smoker.

As someone who has been smoking for about 13 years now, this smoker is absolutley fantastic. It holds heat very well and the large cooking sruface menas I can cook up to 8 slabs of ribs or 6 pork butts at a time. I wish I had one with the removable ash pan but you can always go online to Horizon smokers and get accessories that Westlake does't carry in stock.

I bought this unit because of the removalbe ash drawer that is shown in the picture. The unit came and does not have the stainless steel shelf or the removable ash drawer, even though all the numbers are the same. I am in the process of having my ACE Hardware store, where it was shipped to, take it back. When I spend that much money for an item, I want it to be the item that was advertised and I thought I was buying.

Do not try to off load the unit by yourself. You definitely need two persons or more when assembling this unit. I busted two finger offloading this unit from my vehicle.

i recently purchesd the oaklahoma joe with all the bells a whistles and was shockingly supprised what i got it has no stainless shelf and the burn box has no ash drawer but i paid for it im curently contacting my ace hardware to see what happensd you dont advertise another modle on the ace web site just this one 12201747 and the picture has the items on it that im missing on mine email icehouseone2many[@]
