I don't know if this is "well-built" or "stays sharp;" I've only had it for about 6 months so far. It's not broken yet. It is still sharp. I used the screws and mounted it easily. It sharpens my pencils and I haven't had any problems with it yet. My ten-year-old nephew uses it more than I, and even he hasn't broken it yet. I would recommend this pencil sharpener. The last one I bought from [@]was electric. I had it 3 years, hardly used it at all, then one day I went to use it and it wouldn't power on. That's why I like this manual pencil sharpener. And it reminds me of the innocent, non-electric pencil sharpener days of my youth.

Do not bother with this pencil sharpener. It simply doesn't work at all. It does not hold a pencil so pencil keeps rotating in vain. If I hold the pencil firmly while shoving it, it sharpens, but it sharpens only one side of a pencil. I wouldn't pay even a dollar for this junk. I am returning it.
