The atx1500 is discontinued. The atx1500E with blue backlighting filter program & humidity indicator has replaced it. I just had a new central air and hot air furnace installed. The thermostat installed during the installation was not a Lux. The heater ran for 5-7 minutes and cycled every ten with a 40 degree temperature delta. Constant short cycles on a heat exchanger spells an early death. I installed the Lux ATX1500E purchased at Ace set the swing setting to four and the unit now runs 12-15 minutes and cycles every 60-75 minutes with the same 40 degree temperature delta. The one degree temp spread is still comfortable. Long live the heat exchanger. I also liked the feature to power the stat with the transformer and have battery backup. Lux product support mentioned powering off the heater transformer in the event of electrical spikes could short the transformer out and this could be expensive best to use battery power only. I powered the stat off an old doorbell transformer so it wouldn't effect the wiring or heater transformer and used batteries as backup power. Unit was easy to install and program nicely priced at [$]loaded with features. Printed directions included in packaging would be better served in a larger print more comprehensive instruction booklet. However this can be easily found and read on the internet. Great product would strongly recommend it.

I bought the previous model 18 months ago and the door hinge broke off. Ace replaced it with this new model no questions. COOL.
However, the new model doesn't display the current temp. setting. Also, the old model had recorded the number of hours the fan had run so you could replace the filter by the actual hours used instead of the number of days the filter's been installed (number of days is a very poor measurement). Why they went downhill in features is unknown.
They do have a 'relative humidity' measurement, which automatically alternates with the time. This is how the previous model displayed the current temp (the temp setting was constantly displayed). I'm MUCH less concerned with the RH than I am with the current temp and what the temp. setting is.
I consider this a poorer model than the previous generation and would recommend against this model because it's not as good as it should be. You can find better for the price.

I spent 4 days trying get a Honeywell Model RTH7400D programmable to program correctly, but it did want it wanted anyway. I replaced it with the ATX1500e from Ace. Within 20 minutes, it was mounted on the wall, programmed and operating my furnace without any problems whatsoever. A great product! Easy to install and program. It operates the furnace without a hitch and holds room temperature accurately. I am very happy with this product and would highly recommend it for it's ease of installation and operation. It was also considerably less expensive than the Honeywell product.

I bought this product for my home. When installation proved too difficult for me to do myself, I hired a heating company to install it for me. This professional told me it would not work because I have a 2-stage furnace, so I ended up out money both for the thermostat AND the service call! Be careful that you purchase the correct one!

Things that aren't so great about the TX1500E is that I had to mount it on my hallway wall using different mounting holes. But that is a givin, hardly worth mentioning. Things great about it is it holds the Temperature you want so close you'd think you were sitting in the furnace holding a manual control and a thermometer. I use the TX1500E to heat a 1250 Sq. Ft. home and if I needed 3 of them to do the job , I'd buy them. Well worth the money. You would not believe how nice this unit is till you let it cycle several times and see how efficient it is. I recommend BUY and HOLD.

I bought this model (design has been updated since I bought it) in June of 2008. By November 2009 (less than 18 months) the door hinge hiding the controls had broken out of the main body of the thermostat. Only adults live in this house, so there wasn't any excessive wear; just poor design/materials. Hopefully the new design will eliminate this defect.
Ace has a 'satisfaction guarantee' with no apparent end time, so hopefully will be able to exchange this for the newer design.

Bought and installed this last night, so I can't comment on long term performance, but so far, so good. Bought this on recommendation from other posters that it was a Consumer Reports "Best Buy". I can confirm that this is the LUX brand. Installation was easy, especially as you just need to stick wires underneath a metal base and then screw down (i.e. no more trying to mess around with needle nose pliers trying to mold the right curve to fit around a screw. Only cons were skimpy, fold out directions (I'd like an actual owners manual or booklet,not some Atlas map thank you very much!)that included no Troubleshooting guide. Also, a previous poster was right that it does make a high pitched sound when you hit the light button,and the light doesn't go off with another button-push--you have to let it fade off on its own. Very strange.

[...]. Was very straightforward to install. Luckily, I didn't have to drill new holes. It even came with little stickers to label the existing wires. Can't comment on long term yet...but it seems to accurately gauge temperature and is easy to program. It even reminds you to change your filter! Only one problem: when I turn the internal light on it makes a high pitched electronic noise. I will be contacting customer service about this. Might have to replace the one I bought.

I just bought this today, so I cannot comment on it's long term performance.
That being said, I bought this because it was rated as the best by Consumers Reports.
As of now, I can say that installation was simple as was programing. It seems like a great product.
