Anyone who can read and use a screw-driver can probably install this unit. You mount the back to the wall, hook up the wires to the back plate (Mine uses two), install the batteries and program the unit while on the couch, and then click it on to the base.
The limitation I mention is that you get 2 AM times, and 2 PM times, not 4 whenever times. This works if you go to bed at 10PM. I set ~mine~ so my first AM is turn down after midnight, and my second AM is up at wake-up time. But hen I cant turn the heat down again until lunchtime, the first possible time, at 12:00PM. And Programming is in intervals of 15 minutes only.
It also has a lock feature. If you 'lock it' and lose the instructions, you might get upset like another reviewer did. But it'd be your own fault...
All in all, good for standard purposes.

This would be the best and most cost effective unit if it were not for one thing - in the Spring or Fall, it cannot be on both heat and cool mode, so if it is 85 degrees during the day and 50 degrees at night, you can't have it cool during the day and heat during the night - it can only be in one mode at a time. This is a major disappointment.

I purchased and installed two of this model 9 years ago (4200 sq ft house - 2 heat & A/C units) and have never had a problem until now. One of them is acting up and I am going to replace it with the same item.

We've bought 3 units, and 2 of them went up in smoke within 10 minutes of using. On the working unit the heat/ac switch keeps getting burnt, but it's still usable.

The instructions do not cover all the possible wirings of older systems. But with a little experimentation it was easy enough to figure out. Will replace the other thermodstats in the house with the same model.
