I am a 35 year pool pro and have owned at least three dozen of these timers and use them daily. I couldn't run my busiess without them. Exactly ONE has failed in all these years. I have owned and used MANY more of these than all the angry, ham-fisted people above who wrote bad reviews of this product. If it LEAKS, the washer has fallen out or it's not tight enough. The only one that ever broke was when kids put their whole body weight on the hose.

This timer uses water volume rather than time. It's quite difficult for me to estimate what to use since I'm used to watering by time.
Also the bottom leaked when I 1st used it, soon there were other leaks (but leaks are not unusual for this type of timer).
From now on I will only buy "timers" that use time.

I bought the timers because they are supposed to be 4 hour timers. They are simply unreliable. Often they simply will not cut off. THAT IS WHAT A WATER TIMER IS SUPPOSED TO DO... CUT OFF. I have already had to exchange 3 of 12 purchased. One would not cut off right out of the box. Another cuts off sometimes and not other times. A third worked fine for five or six days then just stopped cutting off. Melnor, the company said they make "millions" of them and never have complaints. They asked me if I knew how to turn on a water timer.

I've had a couple of these... and they never last more than two years. When they fail, it can be an expensive mess to find hundreds of gallons of water overnight or over a weekend. They do not work well with low volume soaker hoses, and are best suited for high volume sprinkler applications to run for an hour or two at times you can check later in the day.

These are the most dependable dial type water timers that I have ever used. I am still using 2 others that I bought 5 years ago, little weathered looking but still working. I bought these latest to replace other brands that I had purchase that did not last a season

Going into 3rd season, no problems yet. Outlasted the cheap Melnor I bought from orange big box store.
I make sure I don't rough handle the item and I do store it inside during fall and winter. I also tighten the connection by hand in proper alignment keeping in mind not to overtorque or misapply torque, keeping the z axis of the torque parallel to the water flow axis of the timer. I also apply gentle turns to the timer dial.

I have used this timer for years. It has been a good product until this year. I guess Ace cheaped out on it. I put it on used it one evening , sometime in the night it blew off. Water was running everywhere. I don't know how long it had been gushing. If this was a one time thing I would not rate it badly, but 4 out 4 waters timers this summer were defective. Same problem on all.

I use this late at night during the cooler time so the water does not evaporate while watering. I can go to sleep and not worry about over watering. Price is good, but I've bought three and they all failed.

I found if you first rotate the dial all the way around a couple times it is much more likely to cut off. Our water is very hard so that may be some of the trouble. Don't count on it working longer than 1 or 2 seasons.

I purchased two of these units and after a few uses they both quit shutting off. When they did shut off, before failing, they still let a serious amount of water flow. I found that the lower settings were the worst for measuring the amount of water used.
