My mother has used several of these forever in New England at hoe in her commercial kitchens etc. Growing up we always had at least two on the counter at all times (one for butter and one for margarine - picky family). When I got married and lived on my own in Florida I could not find these anywhere. I actually made her send one of hers to me. They are the only butter dishes I would use with a toddler. I had gotten a plastic butter keeper that was the exact size as the butter stick but it was not useful at all for daily use. Thats when I broke down and called Mom. I keep my butter out on the counter so it is room temp always (easier to spread and doesn't go bad as long as it is not salt free) and my toddler likes to help set the table. This dish has gotten dropped several times over the last 4 years (not including the several years my mother probably had it) and is just now starting to break down on the corners.

I bought two of these Rubbermaid butter dishes about eight years ago, and loved them. Thick plastic, tight-fitting, airtight lids. I just bought two more and was sorely disappointed at what appears to be a serious decline in quality of Rubbermaid's product. The plastic seems thinner, the lids no longer fit tightly, and as for being airtight, forget about it. I turned them upside down, filled them up with water, snapped the lid on, and flipped it back over. GUSH! The water didn't just leak out, it POURED out. These are going back to the store. Shame on you, Rubbermaid.

Comments about Rubbermaid® Servin' Saver' Butter Dish (1777193):
My wife and I bought this butter dish for camping about 25 years ago. We wanted it to keep the bugs out of our butter in the woods. The kids have grown up and we don't camp anymore but the dish gets used every day and has ever since we bought it. It has finally begun to come apart and now we're buying 2 more. It's a real value in a world with few left.

We use two different types of butter in our household. Our first butter dish is not a Rubbermaid, and just has regular lid without a seal.

I have owned this butter dish for 40 years and still can't kill it. I'm buying a new one, not to replace this one, but to make sure I have one just like it at my other home. It not only keeps odors out but the butter stays fresher longer.
Thank you Rubbermaid.

Using a regular glass butter dish I had minute ants in my butter. I searched for a reasonably priced and decent looking airtight butter dish. This fits the bill. It looks from other reviewers that they last really well.

The best butter dish by far! My original is 20-25 yrs. old and I'm purchasing one for a friend. I use it differently than it's shown in the picture. Try turning it upside down, place your quarter stick of butter in it. When you take a little too much butter, you can scrape it back into the dish with no mess - unlike if you use it as was intended.
The greatest butter dish ever! I hope this does not become a "discontinued item" !!!!

I also looked everywhere and was glad to find it at Ace Hardware. I found that you can have butter, straight from the fridge, spreadable by microwaving for 20 seconds on 20% power, turn over stick and microwave for another 10 seconds on 20%. If you go too long and it melts, the dish is deep enough to hold the melted butter. Great for baking when you forget to bring butter to room temp.

Comments about Rubbermaid® Servin' Saver' Butter Dish (1777193):
This is the best butter dish on the market. A stick of butter fits perfectly, the lid snaps shut, so oders don't get in to contaminate the butter. It is smaller than most other butter dishes so it doesn't take up excess space. I was so happy to find this on the website. I have had one for 15 years and the plastic is starting to deteriorate and I need a new one I have looked everywhere for one.
