I must admit, I was very skeptical about buying this item due to the number of bad reviews. Some of the things mentioned were: difficult to assemble (one person said he had to take his lawnmower to the shop to drill some holes); and bag does not collect clippings. This was not my experience at all.
1. Assembly: You must first understand that I'm a DIY type guy. Having said this, assembly of this product took me about 20 minutes. The instructions seemed a bit confusing so I just decided not to waste too much time trying to figure them out and use the picture on the box as reference. That (and some common sense) got me through it in about 20 minutes.
2. Mounting: My MTD lawnmower had two different pieces covering the side discharge. One was the actual plastic cap over the opening and the other one was perpendicular to the first and had springs to prevent the cover from opening.
I ended up removing both. The cover was easy to remove. Just lift up and "unlock" from hinges. Removing the second one required a pair of pliers to push/pull a pin that holds this second (spring-loaded) cover.
You will need to re-use the pin because that's where the bag will hook onto. After mowing a small area, I discovered I needed to secure the pin to the machine (bag kept coming off). I ended up using some duck tape to do that, and after this minor adjustment, I was off to my weekly routine!
A third negative comment made was that the bag had to be emptied often. Turns out this person also indicated that he cuts his grass every four weeks or so. I cut mine 2 or 3 times per month and I found nothing out of the ordinary with this bag. My yard is approximately ¾ of an acre and I had to empty the bag about six times, which in my opinion is not that bad.
Lastly: I looked at several different sites and found that ACE not only had the cheapest price, it also shipped the item to my local ACE for free!!! This was hard to beat.

This is a great little bagger I use with my 18in lawn mower. Very simple to assemble. Fits perfectly on the chute. I like the elastic cover to dump the grass. It is very handy.
