These deflectors are handy and work well if you kepp them in place and not step on them , like the above comment. Just slip them together and slide to adjust! These are meant to stay in place once put up. For under $7.00 they are perfect.

I think this is the kind I bought: they come in two pieces that slide together to the width you need, and have magnets on the bottom. The ones I got are being used in a household where people don't understand them or care whether the curtains cover the heating vents. They fall apart easily and get knocked off, stepped on, and broken. I wouldn't buy the same kind again. I want something metal that I can nail to the floor or something! Also, if they came further around to the side, the curtains might have a better chance of bypassing the vent.
