Comments about Qual-Craft® Ladder Hook With Roller (2481):
Disassemble an extension ladder into upper and lower halves. Attach two ridge hooks to the upper half of the extension ladder, one to the left and one to the right. When placing the ladder on the roof, the caster wheels allow you to push the ladder up the roof while standing on second ladder. Once the ladder located, you roll the ladder over so that the hooks are over the ridge.
I disassembled a 28 foot extension ladder so that I had one 14 foot length. My roof was only 12 feet. So, I attached the hooks such that the extra 2 feet would extend over the ridge. This kept the lower end of the ladder from landing on the gutter.

Comments about Qual-Craft® Ladder Hook With Roller (2481):
I really needed to do some work on my very steep garage roof, but I was having a problem finding an inexpensive roofing ladder.
After a lot of searching online, I found this ladder hook. Unfortunately I couldn't find any reviews, but I thought I'd just go for it as I didn't have any other options other than shelling out for a more expensive 'chicken' ladder that I didn't have room for anyway.
I ordered two of them online (You need two for one ladder.) and when it arrived, it worked out better than I had expected.
I took my existing 21' extension ladder, and took the two pieces apart. Then working with just one of extension ladder parts, I attached the hooks to the top of it. The product has one hook that goes around the second rung from the top on the ladder, and the roller is on a separate piece of metal that you tighten around the top rung of the ladder with a wing nut.
After that it was really easy to use. I just turned the ladder over so the roller was facing down on the roof. What the product description doesn't tell you is the roller is like a caster on the bottom of a cart that can turn in different directions. So you can move the ladder real easy up/down/left right on the roof.
On the other end of the product is a flat metal sheet that is angled in just the right way that it hangs over the other side of the ridge of the roof to grip on that side of the roof. I just had to turn the ladder back over, and it was all set in place. It was really easy - I can't stress that enough.
Once set, my ladder wasn't going anywhere. Totally solid, it gave me a lot of confidence walking up and down my steep roof. I would definitely recommend this for both it's price and its ability to turn a regular ladder into one that can work on a roof. It's definitely one of my best buys.
