This lawn mower caught my attention because of the nostalgia factor. I then thought it would be great to use around flower beds. It NOW has become my primary lawn mower because it is lightweight, easy to use, and QUIET! It cuts beautifully and I believe my grass looks better as a result.
My mower has caused much neighborhood conversation and now others are considering a purchase. I can mow whenever I desire because there is no noise...I can even hear the birds! The light whirl of the blades is the nice sound I remember from my childhood.
I recommend you try one.

If you do not have weeds in your yard, this might work okay for you. The mower just pushes dandelion and buckhorn over. It is lightweight, but the handles flexes as you push it. Also, the end of the reel is approx. 2 inches from the wheel and the wheel is 2 inches wide, so don't expect to get any closer than 4 inches from buildings or edging. I got this because my gas mower broke down, but I should have put the money towards repair or a new mower.

I ordered my new mower on Sunday and it arrived on Tuesday. I'm not "handy" at all, and was concerned about how much I'd have to do to put the mower together...but 10 minutes later I was cutting my lawn. As a short, smallish woman, I found the mower VERY easy to use. My lawn had grown out of control in the time I'd closed on my new house, moved in, and received the mower- but it easily clipped the grass and the dandelions/violets/purslane/etc that had sprung up in the meantime. My lawn is not huge, but not tiny, either, and it only took 15 minutes to neatly clip it all down and it maneuvered easily around the raised beds in my back yard.
Very happy with it so far! It is a bit noisier than I was expecting, but nothing like the gas powered mowers I've used in the past.

Our lawn would take a couple hours of the traditional gas mower, so you get an idea of its size. The lawn is also rough terrain damaged from chickens and vehicles. Lawn is full of various grasses and weeds tall because we've let it go uncut for so long due to not having a gas mower, it died. Wish it was engineered to cut all types and not just roll over tall ones, but then again we'd all be buying a reel mower. How bout make the blades spin the way of the gas mower; that might do the trick. If you already have a manicured lawn this mower is excellent for maintaining it.

When I was in my early twenties I had an old neighbor who used a reel mower, and I thought to myself "what the heck is he using, he must be old fashioned." However, after many years of foolishly using powerful gas mowers to cut little thin blades of grass, finally learning to become a wiser gardener at home (i.e. composting, planting native shrubs and trees, knowing where to plant), and reading the good customer reviews, I decided to buy the American Lawn Mower Co. Deluxe Light Reel Mower. Wow! No more $4 and change gas and oil, no spark plug and air filter cleaning and replacing, and best of all no noise and pollution. Just a minor assembly of the handle bars when the product arrived at my door, a few minutes of sharpening the blades from time to time and I get my cardio exercise!

The American reel mower is so light. My children are fascinated by this mower a month later. I've had too many power mowers that were difficult to start. I love that I can mow at my convenience without bothering anyone too early in the morning or during the neighbor's barbecue. I would recommend one to anyone with a suburban lot to mow.

I have really enjoyed this mower.I was looking for an environmentally-friendly and quiet mower,but didnt really want an electric mower because of cords and such.This one cuts surprisingly well and actually makes grass-cutting more fun.It isnt ideal for every job though;its not great over large yards with uneven terrain or with lots of tall weeds,and the handle is not quite as rigid as I would like.But overall,works great on most yards.My neighbors even bought one of their own when they tried mine

Tall grass is tough to push through but if you care about your lawn then you mow frequently enough to keep it manageable. With this mower I typically have the best looking lawn in the neighborhood. I laugh at the people who see me and feel sorry that I can not afford a better mower while in reality I do not want anything else. I have about 5000 sqft of lawn.

Reel mowers definitely take a different mowing habit than power mowers. But once I figured it out, I prefer this mower over my power mower! Mow a little more frequently at first, and mow fairly short. Overlap your paths and change the pattern each time (east to west vs north to south).
Added bonus - - Since using this, I have lost 12 lbs!

was worried about buying at first. figured it would be hard to push, wouldn't cut as well, etc. but i was tired of pushing a heavy gas motor up my very hilly yard. i had nothing to worry about. cuts as well as gas and is lighter to push uphill. only downfall is that it only cuts forward, not in reverse. but thats a small price to pay for 1/3 the weight, no gas, no spark plugs, no oil changes, and best of all no pull starts.

This is the absolute best investment I've ever made!! I didn't realize how quickly I would be able to cut my grass!!! Also, I can do it at whatever time in the morning I want, because it doesn't make noise like the gas mowers do. I will never go back to a gas mower ever again! And, it's extremely light!!!
