This moisture meter comes in handy in the garden to help you determine if and when you need to water so that you don't over-water. Keep in mind that if you stick the probe in a glass of water it won't register at all, but if you stick it in water-logged soil it will register a high water level.

I took out my lawn and planted drought tolerant native plants, but some were dying. I wasn't sure if I was over-watering or under watering. The meter showed me I was over-watering most, but a few had holes in the soil that made them dry out, so they needed the holes patched, then watered. I haven't had any plants die since I got this.

First the first reviewer indicated that this is a PH meter, which it is definitely not. I have ruined tomatoes by overwatering, which led to blossom rot on my plum tomatoes. This meter lets you know the soil moisture and when to water. The soil may look dry on top, but can be plenty moist a few inches below. This is a worthwhile investment for the home gardner.
