This drain auger #20500 at 3/8"x50ft did the trick cleaning out our kitchen drain-to-sewer pipe unlike the 1/4"x50ft wimpy kinkable unit I had. Though it is stiffer, once I manuevered it past the joints, it worked great. I ordered this on Monday and picked it up Tuesday morning at my local Redondo Ace Hardware in Federal Way. Thanks for saving my time and some $230.00 net from a plumber's fees!

Used product to clear a VERY clogged kitchen sink. First tried the Cobra Drain Cleaning Tool (88250), which had worked very well on hair-clogged bath/shower drain, but at 25' it did not extend far enough. The 50' Cobra auger solved the problem. One advantage is that the coil is 3/8" instead of 1/4". Be prepared to use some muscle power. But at [$] this was a great value in contrast to a major plumbing company that estimated a charge of $289.

This review is mostly a warning to those who might be interested in purchasing this product to clear a larger diameter drain line (3 to 4"). This auger is clearly for small diameter drains (<2").
I purchased it hoping that it might be able to clear a soft clog some distance down my main sewer line. Unfortunately, it's too unstable to push down a larger diameter pipe (4") and consequently coils up in the pipe with no effect at all. I am sure the professional plumbers out there are laughing and saying " Yep. I could have told you that would happen." But at that price point I thought it might be worth a shot.
As a final note, 50ft is awfully long for a small diameter drain and it makes for a very cumbersome snake to manipulate. I suppose they are out there so for that use it's probably acceptable.
