I find that grinding just a little bit longer than usual causes the unit to give off a faint smell. I think this must be the mechanism being overworked??

My future husband had already had this model Krups coffee grinder for a few years when I met him 21 years ago. I've used it everyday since we were married a year later and oftentimes more than once a day. It never did stop grinding our coffee but a few months ago it began making an odd sound and I knew it was a matter of time. I began searching for a replacement and found the exact same model online at Ace Hardware. Though it was sad to say goodbye to our old reliable friend we couldn't be happier that Krups has stuck to this model. My reason for purchasing this item is to grind fennel seeds as an ingredient in a steak rub recipe. I also used it to grind rosemary and pepper corns for marinade recipes. The performance of the unit is excellent. The exterior feels good to touch, is beautiful, is easily cleaned and is space efficient. I recommend this unit without reservation.

Most reviews online seem to support this grinder as a nice entry level one. I agree. I went through 2 Cuisinart models, both ended up having its cup get stuck in the base. With the Krups model, it's all one piece but it makes for a sturdier product.
