The first and only smoker I ever had because 1] it is so affordable and 2] it works great. I have done turkeys, standing rib roasts, beef ribs, pork ribs, ducks, chickens and the flavor and consistency is wonderful. Follow the simple instructions and it is virtually foolproof, rendering a perfectly cooked, smoky, tender and juicy product. I am a good cook and this makes all the roasts I can cook conventionally better by far. Friends say, get an electric smoker, you can control it better. I say, you can pay for it, I am completely happy with my basic Brinkmann. Of course, I still can't afford a more expensive model but, honestly, I don't want one. I am a happy camper.

I purchased this for myself in 2011 and based on other reviews newer versions of this smoker don't allow the ash from the charcoal to be away from the coals. Therefore you are adjusting the smoker every hour. Cooks great if you are willing to constantly add coals and get all the ash out of the tray in the middle of smoking whatever you want. Otherwise they are smothered and you have very little heat.

I have enjoyed some delicious ribs due to the shorter cooking time but pork shoulders have been tasty but take so much maintenance to keep the temperature where I want it (about 250).

I modified mine so it would work better including an accurate thermometer and an ash tray. There are many websites offering advice on how to modify it if you want to. All in all it will cook great but isn't worth the effort.

      Comments about Brinkmann® Smoke 'N Grill (810-5301-C):

I won my Brinkmann Smoker thiry years ago from my employer and I have been using it regularly ever since. I am still using the original fire pan; I line it heavy duty aluminum foil every couple of years and it still looks like new. My wooden handles got too weathered so I bought a wooden dowel and cut new ones. I have a large propane fired grill with all the bells and whistles and it is only used when there are too many guests to use the old Brinkmann. I probably have grilled 1000-1200 steaks on it in the last thirty years and plan to use it for another 500.

Got this for my husband for Christmas as his first smoker. There is a little learning curve to keep the temp constant but even our first use turned out great!

        Comments about Brinkmann® Smoke 'N Grill (810-5301-C):

Good beginners smoker especially for the price. The charcoal pan burns out easy and wood handle goes bad quickly. Cheaper to replace the smoker. I did it 3 times in less than 10 years, so must of like this smoker. The electric version is much easier to use, but doesn't generate enough heat for cold or windy days. Higher end charcoal smokers like the Weber WSM, ProQ and ceramic egg type smokes are easier to use, maintain temperature and use less charcoal, but cost the smokers more than triple the Brinkmann.

Best to slow cook large chunks of meat. For chicken breast and thighs, 9 pounds is about the most on 2 racks.
Then into oven at 450F for cracking pork or a hot grill for bbq grill marks. Slow cooking makes tough meat softer and the flavor to penetrate.

        Comments about Brinkmann® Smoke 'N Grill (810-5301-C):

I have an early version of the Brinkmann Smoke n' Grill as well as a PitMaster Deluxe and I find I use the simpler unit much more often. I have had over 20 years of service with it and it has yet to have any more than normal rust and no rot. The cooking is always reliable (unless you lose the thermometer).
Try as I might for years, I have never been able to find a replacement thermometer, that was jarred loose and lost during a move. As a smoker, it is useless without a thermometer. With the thermometer, it is unbeatable, even compared to the most expensive units! The new unit shown here is basically identical and given inflation, it is also basically the same price as the one I bought 20 years ago! CHEAP! I love my Smoke N Grill (So somebody tell me where to find a new thermometer for it!)

BRIQUETS BURN EXTREMELY QUICK AND LEAVES ASHES TO SMOTHER THEM....

I have owned one of these double-smoker-grills for over 25 yrs. I love it. I have smoked Venison, Pork Ribs, and even 16LB Turkies in mine. I always add a few pieces of Hickory Limbs from the Hickory trees in my yard

Great piece of equipment you don't have to worry about your Smoked item catching fire to grease drippings either!!!

This is a great value-priced water-type smoker. It's an excellent choice for someone who wants to try smoking their foods instead of grilling. It's easy to use, and is fairly durable. I love to smoke, and have owned several of these over the last 20 years. The pan for the charcoal does eventually rust out, but I keep buying new ones because you can't beat the price.
