3m was the first kit I tried years ago. I tried quite a few others over the years (the wife trying to save a buck) and was always disappointed with the results other products(didn't seal well, hard to handle, adhesives failed long before end of season, didn't stay clear or was foggy to start with) to the point I called some companys to express my displeasure. In one case the manfacturer sent me a voucher to replace the kit with the one of my choice. I got 3m with the voucher.
Since then I have stuck with the 3m brand and will try no others.

Pretty easy to use. The tape seems sticky, but does not stick to the painted dry wall well at all. Maybe it's the paint? The tape sticks better to the painted wooden trim (different color paint, but I do not know what is different about the composition). Have to use thumb tacks to keep tape stuck to wall when plastic is in place. Cats are not a fan of it since their windowsill sitting ledge is gone.

Have compared to alternatives, which are not clear--milky appearance. Also tape superior to other brands. Much easier to separate and apply.

After the first season with a few DIY storm windows I knew I'd be doing the whole 1935 house. Virtually eliminated condensation and resulting paint damage to the windows, cuts out drafts, and saves on heating. Other film brands I've tried handle similarly but aren't as clear as the 3M product.
My storm windows consist of a light weight painted pine or fir frame built for 1/4" clearance all 4 sides. A 2" wide strip of 5-6 mil plastic (Visqueen) is folded to make a 1" wide double thickness which is stapled to the back side (not the edge) of the finished storm window so that it sticks out like wings, about 5/8" on all 4 sides. Shove this into the window opening and the plastic strip holds it firmly in place while acting as a seal. I install 2 sheet metal screws on the front side as pulls to get the storm window out again.

I'm impressed. And I am not impressed easily. Once I used the blow dryer to shrink the plastic it was clear as glass. Very impressive. Advice: 1) separate the tape and the paper about 1/2 inch before you apply it to the window frame. That way you can easily find the end of the paper and start pulling off. If you wait until you have applied the tape to the frame it can be very difficult to separate the tape and the plastic. (The tape is THAT good). 2) go very slowly side to side with the blow dryer. 3) stand off a bit to the side as you are blow drying it. That way you can see how far you are away from the plastic. If you stand right behind the dryer it is difficult to judge how far away you are from the plastic. 4) to see if all the wrinkles are gone go outside and look in. If the sun is shining on it you will get an even more detailed inspection.

If your looking to insulate your windows this is the best product to use. 3M makes the best double sided tape for a strong grip to the window frame and the plastic film blow dries to a crystal clear finish (like a sheet of glass)
Frost king make a cheap product that does not hold up well to the long winter season. The only problem is you can only buy it at ACE Hardware

We put these up on all our windows, and our gas bill went down, even though it got colder outside. Saves $$$, worth the investment!!!

We put these up on all of our windows in our old home (early 1900's), which all have very nice varnished Chesnut wood molding, so we wanted to make sure we blocked the drafts and cold air coming in, but we did not want to ruin the wood; I tested the tape on an inconpicuous piece of wood and it came off as easily as regular scotch tape, very nice.
Very easy to use/install. Using a "powerful" hair dryer on high blast got rid of the wrinkles more quickly and effectively then on low blast. You don't need to "obsess" about laying the plastic on exactly flat, the heat really makes for a tight fit.

So I'm not seeing much improvement in my utility bill but there is definately less draft in my home. We rent a home without double pane glass windows and the landlord is not ready to install them so we thought this would help.

Tip: Mine came with one long bundle of folded film. You have to cut the film to fit the window. Follow the No.1 instruction on the box. DO NOT COMPLETELY UNFOLD the pack of folded film and then measure and cut the film. Measure the length of the window, add two inches in LENGTH, forget the width as there is more than enough for a 3 foot wide window when all the folds are unfolded, flop the entire pack of folded film open, mark your length and cut straight across ALL of the folds.

Comments about 3M Indoor Window Insulator Kit (2141W6):
I used this product last winter to cover two drafty windows in our family room. First of all, it is extremely easy to install. The plastic tightens up with the heat from a blow-dryer, making it tight and crystal clear. It stayed neatly in place all winter and did a beautiful job of stopping the drafts. There was no tape or sticky residue left behind after removal.
