There were about 7 birds feeding from this feeder just this morning! It attracts birds more than a regular feeder. The squirells and the birds were eating the seeds together on the ground, the seeds that fell. There were 2 birds at one time eating at the feeder. Also, there was a cardinal there too.

At Lake Tahoe, NV, I cut a 12 inch round pieece of plastic & wired it to the bottom of my feeder, which then allowed even large woodpeckers & blue jays to eat comfortably without breaking the rings. Worked great. Be sure to cut a large enough hole to be able to open & refill the geeder.

I have my feeder hanging under the eaves by my kitchen window. The small birds don't seem to mind being close to the house. If a larger bird tries to sit on the rim, he can break it but it's great for chickadees, finches, sparrows, and similar birds.
