I put a spoonful of peanut butter and some roasted peanuts in a small plastic cup and placed it inside. The squirrels couldn't resist the smell of it and in no time they were inside and the trap was set.

I HAD a small Southern Flying Squirrel in my attic for about 2 weeks while I tried to out smart him/her. I bought this for a total of [$] and had caught and released him within 4hours. It's a simple trap, but very efficiant. Read an earlier post and not sure how the guy got/almost got bitten. If you carry it properly it's fine. I did use/recommend work gloves, but again, he never came close to my hand. Lastly, I'm not crazy about the price. $20 is plenty for this trap, however, I'm in an older house so I suspect it will be used again. Very positive experience.

THIS MODEL DEPENDS ON ALIGNING TWO ROUND 1/8" RODS WHETHER AGAINST EACH OTHER OR END TO END, SEPARATING AND RELEASING THE DOOR. PROBLEM: ANY MOVEMENT OR VIBRATION CAUSES THE RODS TO SLIP AND DROP THE DOOR. ALSO THE DOOR DOES NOT WEIGH ENOUGH OR COME DOWN HARD ENOUGH FOR THE SPRING LOADED LATCH TO ENGAGE THEREBY LOCKING THE DOOR.
A MUCH MORE LIKELY SITUATION IS THE ANMAL SMELLING THE BAIT, NUDGES THE SIDE OF THE CAGE AND THE DOOR DROPS, FOLLOWED BY THE ANIMAL GETTING FRUSTRATED AND RATTLING THE CAGE, BUT INHUMANELY NEVER ABLE TO EVEN GET THE BAIT. THE COMPANY REP. HERSELF SAID "A DIFFERENT DESIGN (MODEL 1077) IS AVAILABLE FOR ONLY ABOUT $2.00 MORE. GO FOR THE BETTER TRAP!
