I've used live animal traps in the past and this one is the worst. The spring trap requires signifcant pressure in order to release, the doors don't close completely and animals can/do escape even after being caught.

the trap works great but i want to catch rabbits but have caught more rats which is good. still working on the rabbits if i can get rid of rats rabbits will be next

I have had two previous Havahearts, and while the illustrations on those products were also terrible, this trap is just a plain waste of money and builds frustration.
Squirrels can play trampoline games on the trigger and not make it go off.
If ever there were a horridly designed piece of garbage, this is it.
Save your money and frustration, do not use the Havaheart trap.

This is THE most effective squirrel trap I have ever seen. The fact that it opens on both ends does not discourage entry (I have another Havahart that opens on 1 end and the squirrels are hesitant to enter). Plus, the trigger plate on this one is just right for squirrels. Put peanuts in the shell inside this trap, and you will catch squirrels all day long. Trapping tip: put the trap in the exact same area, over and over (the squirrels can smell the former squirrels and this alone really seems to bring them in to the trap). We are trapping the squirrels to keep them off our mango trees (in a residential neighborhood). 3 weeks of trapping: 22+ squirrels.
