Comments about Great Neck® Bit Brace (BR10):
This hand brace uses a very old 3/8 taper square design that will never work with modern auger bits. It is next to impossible to find auger bits that fit and very few if any companies carry: "hand brace sold center auger bits with a 3/8" taper square"
This would be a great bit brace but Ace Hardware does not carry new Irwin solid center auger bits with a taper square shank type.
How excatly am I supposed to use this without a bit?

Paint looks like it was done with a rattle can,and looks like it was cast in a sand mold.Nickle plating doesn't even cover everything.

Comments about Great Neck® Bit Brace (BR10):
Ignore the post where the guy says it slips and is not a "jacobs" chuck...he is using the wrong bits if they fit in a jacobs chuck
These are for the "screw type auger bits", of course they will slip with a ordinary drill bit! The handle is offset a bit, it more closely matches the natural motion when you crank it.
That being said these old school bit and braces are still a very good tool, especially for deep holes, and the auger style bits will cut the outer edge first to prevent splintering

Comments about Great Neck® Bit Brace (BR10):
Terrible product, when you TRY to use it with a drill, the chuck will slip on the drill bit, it's not a jacobs chuck, the jaws are uneven when tightening drill. The Knob is NOT centered over the center of the axis of the drill bit, you can see that in the picture here on the ACE site.
So to drill a straight hole, pray the bit does not slip in the chuck, crank the handle while turning the knob in a circle. A really cheap electric drill will at least drill a straight hole.
