I use this vacuum to clean my apartment. I haven't experienced the problems other reviewers have mentioned. I have owned this product for about 2 years now, and it's still under warranty.
The suction seems strong, and I really like the on-board tools that attach easily and even have their own compartments on the vacuum. The light also helps so you can see what you are vacuuming on the floor. There is a dirt indicator that supposedly tells you if the patch of carpet you are going over is clean or not. Red for dirty, and green for clean. The other good thing is that this vacuum uses bags so dust and dirt is less likely to fly around when you change bags. There is also a mechanical "bag full" indicator. I haven't changed the bag once for the time I have owned this vacuum. (I only vacuum once a month, but the bag also seems large.) There is a carpet height adjustment switch, and the on-off switch is easily accessible on the handle. The cord is long, but is not retractable. There is space and notches on the vacuum so you can wind and store the cord, however.
The only problem I ever had was that the brush belt fell off recently, but I just put it back on. I had to unscrew the bottom plate to get to the belt, but it was not difficult at all using the owner's manual.
The other good thing is the 3 year warranty. If anything goes wrong during that period, Hoover is supposed to fix it, though I haven't tried to make a claim yet.
The downsides of this vacuum: heavy (not self-propelled), noisy, and no off switch for the brush so you can't use it to clean delicate surfaces like wood.
Overall, I think the pros far outweigh the cons. This vacuum performs well and is reliable. Though it's not perfect, it is a great value for the price. I recently looked at some vacuums that costs hundreds of dollars, and the only real difference between this vacuum and those other ones is that there is an off switch for the brush agitator on the expensive vacuums.

tried to turn off the vacuumn and it would not turn off. took the handle apart and some kind of a plastic arm is suppose to shut the switch off inside the handle but is too weak to work. very poor excuse for a switch control. would not recomend this cleaner to anyone

THIS VACUUM VIBRATES SO BAD AND IS SO LOUD WHEN YOU USE IT THAT IT MAKES YOU WANT TO THROW IT AWAY.
