Our 10 year old mailbox took a beating (literally!) by vandals in March, 2013 and had to be replaced. I choose the Gibraltar (Solar Group) Tuff Body mailbox for its strength, durability and good looks. The mailbox shell, door and flag are made of 12 gauge steel sheet while the floor and back panel are 18 gauge steel; by comparison most conventional mailboxes are made from 20-22 gauge sheet metal. The Tuff Body has tack-welded construction and a heavy-duty full length door hinge rather than metal-crimping and rivets used in typical mailboxes. The Tuff Body has a magnetic latch to keep the door securely closed and is fully protected, both inside and out, against rust and corrosion with a baked-on powder paint coating that should last for many, many years. The Tuff Body dimensions are similar to a standard size mailbox: 20.25" (outside length; 18.25" inside length with a 1.25"recess for the door and 0.75" recess for the back panel), 7" (width), and 9.75" (outside height; 9" inside height). The Tuff Body requires some simple assembly/attachment of the flag to the mailbox and you have to supply your own hardware (screws) to attach the mailbox to your post. Although the Tuff Body that I purchased weighed 16.8 lb, approximately 15% less than the 20 lb. weight in the Tuff Body specifications, I would still consider this a sturdy, durable and vandal resistant mailbox that is well worth the extra $$$. Loved it for the first few years but now the hinges are totally rusted on the inside?? makes no sense..never has been left open..looks like they just did not finish it properly. Very expensive would expect it to last a lot longer!!

We had a major problem with kids vandalizing our mailbox. This box is fantastic to thwart against that. However, the hinge rusted and the door fell off.
