- Pull-down Attic Ladder
Comments about WERNER Century® Premium Heavy Duty 10Ft 3In Wooden Attic Stairway (AET-100):
As did a previous reviewer, I also did a fair bit of research on-line. This Century ladder is sturdier than others (rated for 350 pounds vs 250) selling at a similar price. I use it in the ceiling of my garage for access to my storage attic and it is noticeably less wobbly than the lighter-weight ladders when climbing or descending with items to be stored.
The installation directions are less then great. For example, they say to install all of the screws from above before opening the stairs. This is not possible because you cannot install the side screws UNLESS the stairs are in the open position! Also, they give no advice on how one is to lift the 72 pound stairs into a hole ten feet from the floor and hold them in place while screwing them in from above. For what it's worth, I rigged a sling, pulled them up with a 2-ton come-along, used an extra brace in the middle (see photo), and screwed in the ends from above. After my GF removed the braces from below, we carefully extended the stairs then installed the side screws.
They sell a kit to insulate between the stairs and the rough opening. We used fire-resistant expanding foam instead and were very pleased with the result.
Overall, this is a great, sturdy product, but you will likely find that every installation is unique and you will have to figure out some tricks to make it work for your situation.

Comments about WERNER Century® Premium Heavy Duty 10Ft 3In Wooden Attic Stairway (AET-100):
I replaced an existing ladder. This is a very solid product. My carpentry skills are lacking and the instructions for squaring, shimming and measuring/cutting the legs for proper fit did little to make it clear to me. With no skills it took 3 hours to install. That said, I did get them in and I am very happy with the result.

The Century attic ladder is well constructed. I did a lot of looking on line. The Century attic ladder was the best choice by far for me . I am VERY happy with my purchase. I use it in the ceiling of my garage for access to my storage attic.
