Comments about Rutland Fireplace Mortar:
It may have been old stock, but the tube I got was kinda runny. That made the repairs I was doing in the top of my fireplace burn-chamber more challenging, but I did manage to get the job done. Plan on getting dirty when you use this product!

Comments about Rutland Fireplace Mortar:
Rutland Fireplace Mortar worked great for me. It had no separation in the tube. It flowed out perfectly, adhered well to overhead and vertical surfaces and hardened up rock solid.
Highly recommended. Especially for the price.

Comments about Rutland Fireplace Mortar:
Several weeks ago I bought 2 tubes of this product to repoint some of the firebrick joints in my fireplace. Both tubes contained several small pockets of thin/watery contents. That is, the consistency of the mortar mix was not consistently smooth throughout the tube. Apparently this product is subject to at least a small amount of separation during storage, or perhaps I got a bad batch. With rigid caulk gun tubes like this, it is not possible to shake, agitate, or kneed the contents to avoid this problem.
Generally, the consistency is like caulk. For this reason, I found it a little messy to work with during troweling/smoothing/raking after applying it to the joinery. I have not burned a fire yet, so cannot comment on how well this product hardens after being firedcured.
