Be careful to first line up the bolt so it fits perfect, that way when you try to connect the bolt, the bolt will reach long enough to touch/contact the bolt and fasten tightly. Great fan. My favorite thing about this fan is that it is small, quiet, quant, low key, inobtrusive, down right cute. Has 2 speeds. I really like it. I have two at home, and one at work. Any room you spend much time in, it is needed. Even have one in my home rest room. Do not throw em out when dusty, just get a duster, clean, then open, re-dust it inside with soft feathery cloth, then damp cloth and snap back together. If ever it does not want to start, such as after 2 years, just after you turn on the power button, just tap it with a straw.
