The tree guards are both flexible and firm. To apply to a tree, just unroll, then roll back around the trunk. I wanted to support the tree as well as protect its bark. I placed a bamboo support pole nearly against the trunk, then wrapped the guard around the trunk and guard, leveling the tree and attaching it to its support. It is fairly long, so I cut one of the guards in half, then used it on two short shrubs. Overall, I'm very pleased with this.
