I use this on a 120 foot drive way, when I bought it, it worked perfectly, now the paddles stop in 2 inches of snow. New they would go through as much as the snowblower could take in. (about 8 inches) It starts on about thesecond to third pull with the primer pushd about 5 times. It doesn't work really well in the cold, take a while to get warmed up to running temperature. Doesn't blow very far, maybe about 10 feet.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
I bought one of these Yard Machine products. They were having a $50 off sale and so I snatched one up in the early season. We have had a few snowstorms recently in the Chicagoland area including a 1 ft storm yesterday. For the money, I'm really impressed with this machine. I followed the instructions when I got the machine. I filled the oil appropriately and then put in gasoline a few days before I was going to use it. The blower started up after a pumps of the primer and setting the choke.
The machine works great on fluffy dry snow as most do. When the snow gets wet it gets more difficult. I had to manhandle it a big to get it to chew through a wet snowbank from the street plow. It was able to get through it, but it did stall out a few times.
For a single stage thrower, I'm pretty happy. The price was right. It has breezed through my small driveway, walks and sidewalks. I would definitely buy again. We'll see the reliability as the season goes on.

A good hint to all that purchase this product: use a silicone spray lubricant on the paddles, chute, anywhere you don't want snow to stick to it. This will make it work better, and you will be happier.

It helped me clear a triple driveway, 2 sidewalks, and two patios from an average of 2 1/2 feet of snow in about 3 hours. What a difference versus trying to shovel all that snow.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
I love this little machine, mine is 4 years old (the previous model)
In south jersey we got hammered two winters in a row with record amounts of snow. We are close enough to the ocean to pick up the extra moisture and far enough from the ocean for low temps. This resulted in a couple of snowzilla's. My little snowblower took care of it with ease. When there are 10 inches on the ground I make my first run and finish it of after it stops snowing. Starts on the first pull, always. It is extremely easy to handle, my wife uses it when it snows and I am at work.
The only con is that my electric starter does not work but since the pull is reliable even that would not take away a star.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
For the price I found this to be a good snow thrower. It doesn't clear wet snow very well but we have a lot of snow this winter (2010-2011) and I'm glad to have use of it. I first thought it to be hard starting but it was due to bad fuel. It starts reliably the 1st to 3rd pull. It is light enough to lift it into my truck for use at my apartments as well as my home.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
I got mine 2yrs ago and it works great. The different is that mine is a 2cycle not 4cycle. I used it in 1.5ft of snow, I did have to make a couple of passes, but it did the job. The problem I have is I live on a major plow route so I get the de-icer and all of the road stuff. That is where I have a problem. Overall it worked great for me.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
Contrary to some of the other reviews, mine works very well for what it is. In snow over 12 inches, it take some effort to push as it's not self propelled. It throws snow a good 15-20 feet and cleans right to the concrete. I previously had a two stroke Snapper for over 15 years and finally wore it out. This machine performs as good or better. Easy starter and no problems yet after a good 10 hours on it. Great for the price.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
It works ONLY if the snow is light and dry. The last two snowstorms we had in Michigan (Ann Arbor area) I ended up putting the snowblower away and using the shovel. It doesn't even blow the snow enough to send it through the chute and if it does, the chute clogs. I'm going to sell this in the spring and buy a Toro. Right now I am waiting for my neighbor to get home so I can borrow his.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
Snow 5" or better and this machine wants to "run home to mommy". Discharge chute clogs continually if snow is wet. It doesn't have enough power to throw wet snow (forget about slush!) clear of its own path. What a waste of money.
If all you're dealing with is light dry snow then the machine is good. But that's not the real world.

Comments about MTD Yard Machines 21in 123 CC Single Stage Snow Thrower (31A-140-022):
Works real well on pavement. The problem I have had is the left wheel sits to close the the metal housing (you can see in the photo). Snow will stick to the wheel and stop the wheel from turning. Very hard to push the unit when it happens and annoying when you have to stop every few feet. Usually happens when the snow is to deep for the blower and your not clearing all the way to the pavement or you use on gravel. Other than that, this thing makes snow removal fun.
