We have a home built in the 30s and it has a good size attic partially finished. This pull down stairs provides good economical access. Very nice.

This was my second set of attic stairs and is far better than the flimsy unit it replaced. This one is sturdy and made in the USA. Be sure to have help when you install it.

Comments about WERNER Century® Premium Heavy Duty 8Ft 9In Wooden Attic Stairway (AET-89):
Installed item this past weekend. Stair tread are not 1" thick, they are 3/4". Also, they are not 6" wide, they are 5 1/4". Called Century in Little Rock, Arkansas, and was told that they rounded up the size on their literature to 1 x 6. I told them that that was a little deceptive in my opinion. These are nice stairs. but the hatch does lack a little pizazz, so you will have to trim that out if it is going to be installed in an area that shows. Also, I plan on adding a sturdy, but inconspicuous handle, because the rope cord seems like it may break over time. Of course I will have to step on a stool to reach the hatch, but I won't be using it that often. I am satisfied and it is a major improvement over what was there before. I just wish that those stair treads were the size that they stated. I did a lot of comparison shopping, and I might have made a different choice. I was definitely thinking of safe and sure footing when I made my purchase. I did have a contractor install this for me and he had a helper. These are not small treads, but also not the size I thought I was getting.

Very nice stairs. I was dreading installation but it was fairly simple (I was replacing so the whole and supports were already in place). Much better than the cheap stairs we had before. Should have done this years ago.
