Great pump... I've had this 20 year-old house for 10 years now. This pump was in here when I moved in. Pump works consistantly per spec. BUT.. The rod holding the float rusts away and the pump runs continuously because the float weight no longer pulls the switch handle down. I fixed it easily with a coated coat hanger wire bent as needed to re-attach the float. Will replace it maybe in 5 years with a stainless steel rod. But you just can not beat a coat hanger!

I bought this as a replacement for another brand of pump with the same configuration.
It has been working steadily to keep my basement dry for two years now, but has started to fail.
Why? The float sticks.
In this design the doughnut float slides up and down a steel rod to trigger the switch.
But that steel rod is not *stainless* steel.
Someone cheaped out on the design/specification and this rusty rod is stopping the pump from switching. Sometimes stuck ON to run the pump dry, sometimes stuck OFF to cause a flood (saved by the backup).
Reliability is essential in a sump pump.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Submersible Sump Pump (ASF33):
After 10 years of service some ceran wrap finaly did my old pump in. It snuck into the sump basin and wrapped around the pump intake, causing it to overheat and expire. My AC drains into the sump basin, so during summer the pump runs 2-3 times daily, plus after heavy rain storms. Like other reviewers noted, the rod holding / guiding the float eventually corroded, but that was na easy fix. The switch lasted just as long as the pump, and I'm keeping it as a spare for the replacement pump. 2 years of warranty and the product held up under frequent use for a decade. Well worth the money!

We've had this pump for fifteen years and up until recently it has performed flawlessly. Unfortunately, the switch is finally starting to fail so I just ordered another. It supposedly has a replaceable switch, but good luck finding one!

For the price, this is a terrific pump. It's not the best pump out there, but gets the job done. After owning it almost two years now I am happy with it. It has consistently kept my basement from flooding even through two major storms.

Comments about ACE HARDWARE Ace® Submersible Sump Pump (ASF33):
Great pump!! Had it in my house for 6 years at least. It was here when I bought the house from previous owner. It finally went out when the stator housing got a hole in it, losing the dielectric oil. Thus causing a chain reaction resulting in overheating many components. Had to install a backup which was the same today. I will buy another one this week. I give it 4 stars due to the rod rusting. I just replace the rod with a stainless one.

Float rod should be given 3 coats of Rust-Oleum and that should take care of the potential for the float rod to rust.

Not the most durable pump but gets the job done. I have had this pump for almost 6 years (pump was already installed when I moved in to house) and for this first time something has gone wrong with it. The switch is failing so I need to order the part. It is an easy replacement but I just need to get the part now before it fails altogether. Fortunately I do have a backup pump. There are much better pumps out there but if you're on a tight budget, then I would recommend this pump.

It worked fine, until the switch failed. We got less than 3 years use out of it. Plus, as noted in other reviews, the rod had also seriously rusted.
Pros
- Easy to Use
- Pump works great when new
Cons
- First one the rod rusted
- Poor Construction

Use this for our washer. Within 5 years had went through 2 of these. Just replaced one today the bolts holding the case to the bottom rusted out. So the case came off and water flowed into the motor.

After 10 years this pump is starting to fail with a rusty rod that the float goes on and it stuck .My fix was to use a 10 gauge copper wire, but I think it is time for a new one.Why don't they just use a copper clad rod.

This sump pump has worked faithfully for 6 years keeping my house and garage dry. This year the switch mechanism went out. It cost $22 for a new switch. What a bargin. Love this pump.
