Bought the sock when my husband was in a hospital bed for 10 mos. so he could watch all the gold fluttering of finches feeding or waiting for space on the long sock. Now my husband can walk & he is in charge of feeding the wild birds. We've bought several finch socks over the last 5 years (also have given some as gifts). Socks can be refilled countless times, but with about 25 finches feeding continually through each day, eventually the sock gets holes. Socks can be washed easily, but they never return to white, because the black nyger seeds dye the sock a grayish color. Finches don't mind what the sock looks like; they adore those black thistle seeds. Baby finches are especially easy to spot; they think they need to flutter while they eat. Older finches land, hop around to find an empty spot on the sock, and then eat their fill. Eager finches hop on nearby branches, waiting for an empty spot where they can also feed.

I have this item but in a smaller size and very shortly after I hung it up, a bird landed on it and began to peck away. Soon afterward, there were 2 or 3 more birds attracted to it and now, it's hardly ever unoccupied. Good for the smaller type birds -- big ones can't/don't cling to it.
When this sock empties out, I plan on buying another and will wash the empty socks in the laundry and refill as needed.
This sock hangs next to a seed feeder and seems to be a little busier than the seed feeder.
