I’ve been using the Tomcat mouse traps for at least 5 or 6 years now and I’m convinced they have invented a better mousetrap, better than the century old wood base traditional mousetraps (Victor, etc.). Much safer, much easier & faster to set and “cleanerâ€/easier to dispose of the corpse. The one downside is that they are 2-3 times more expensive. But these aren’t too expensive to begin with and the advantages heavily outweigh the cost factor. I see from other reviews that there’s many people that seem to have a problem using these traps. I’m not sure exactly what their issue is, but I usually don’t have a problem killing a mouse with these on the 1st try, and have always succeeded by the 2nd (or 3rd on 1 occasion) attempt. (about the same success/failure rate as I have had with the traditional victor mousetraps). A couple of years ago, I set 6 traps out in the autumn to get the mice coming in for the winter and each had killed a mouse by the next day and then the next 24 hours I caught another 5 (my catch #s tapered off greatly after that) I suspect a significant factor as to why the trap doesn’t catch the mouse for many people is that the traps might be carelessly set. One thing the directions say that I think is critical is "The teeth of the trap should be facing the wall". A mouse’s runway is typically following the edge of a wall. So when setting the trap, make sure the trap/teeth are right up against the wall â€" no space. Another thing I think is important is to make sure the bait is exactly in the bait cup and not outside of it. You only need a tiny amount. Make sure the mouse has to go as deep into the trap as possible and has as little wiggle room as possible. And even if the mouse was to lick the bait from the trap and not get caught, don’t give up…. the mouse is going to eventually get a little careless and eventually get what’s coming. If setting the traps carefully and the mouse is cleaning out the bait consistently without setting off the trap, I suspect the trap (or a batch of traps) had a slight hiccup in the manufacturing process and the trigger mechanism wasn’t as sensitive as it should be. I have had that exact same issue even with the cheapo traditional wooden traps. You might want to do a little testing to see if your trap seems sensitive enough. If it strikes you as being difficult, exchange it or just buy another one. I also have tried one of Heavy Duty Tomcat traps without any problem. A bit more expensive, but I’m happy with the smaller version. One method I use frequently that has almost never failed me is to setup 3 traps in a row right next to each other (see pic â€" garage floor behind some stored lumber). Maybe the mouse might lick 1 trap clean, but by the time it gets to the one in the middle, it’s gotten a little less careful and has to also crawl through a trap to get to the middle trap. In this situation, usually 2 or all 3 of the traps have sprung for the 1 mouse. Poor Mickey, sorry :(

My wife fell for it and bought the "better mouse trap" at a rate of 5x the price of the old school spring trap on a board. I checked the traps when I set them for her and they sprung as advertised. I baited them with peanut butter and began the mouse feeding. When I noticed the mice were gaining weight and the traps NEVER sprung, not even once, I was elated to see her bring home the old school traps after using yours for 2 weeks. I set the new traps for her and caught 3 mice in the first hour.

horrible..Inhumane

Comments about Tomcat Mouse Snap Trap (BL33505):

This is the worst trap I've ever used. Very inhumane to the animal. Caught a mouse and 24 hrs latter it was still alive. We let it go and it was happy to run off. Another trap is missing. Nowhere close to the location it was set. I guess we'll find it when it begins to smell.
This trap should be off the market.

Comments about Tomcat Mouse Snap Trap (BL33505):

I bought three of these traps and only one set normally. I watched a chipmunk set it off in daylight, without getting caught, then literally drag it off four feet to try to get at the peanut butter... The other two simply will not even set, something with the alignment... Total waste of money. If they actually set at all, I'd be less inclined to feel this way.

I like this trap initially- easy to set and pretty effective at killing mice. However, after one or two settings the jaws won't stay open. They keep shutting and don't allow setting the traps. There seems to be no way to adjust the spring to allow proper setting of the trap. Suggestions?

I bought a 2-pack of the mouse traps on 5/13/16 and they have absolutely failed. I set both traps with a tiny piece of cheese in the circle indicated on the trap. I've done this the past two nights. Both mornings afterwards, the cheese is gone but the trap did not catch the mouse. I wish I had bought conventional traps, but I had never heard of this brand and the guy at the hardware store recommended it. I would like a refund, please! If you send me a postage paid envelope I will gladly send you the traps!

Had mice in a jeep that I don't drive very often & set sticky traps & the mice would get out. Saw the Tomcat Traps and thought why not. Except for putting two face tape on the bottoms so they wouldn't move around they have worked great. 3 mice in 3 days! Set them with peanut butter on the back of the plate and dead mice. Will buy more for other areas. SO easy to set and SO easy to get rid of the dead mouse.

Bought 4 traps and baited them with peanut butter twice. Each time the peanut butter had been eaten, but no mice. The trap was still set. Seems as though the mice are able to reach the peanut butter without setting off the trap. If I use the old fashion wooden traps they work but I get nervous when setting them. Was looking for a trap which seemed a little safer to set. I can not recommend these traps.

Totally worthless! The mice eat the peanut butter off the bait station daily. After a few days of this, I bought the standard old school Victor wooden mouse traps. Same bait, same location, 2 dead mice within 24 hours. These worthless traps seem to need too much pressure to actually snap them. Safe for kids, pets AND mice population. If I could give a negative star rating, I would! Oh, and the glue traps, had mouse droppings on it, but no mouse......hmmm...don't think I'll ever buy another Tom Cat product again!

These mouse traps are an absolute waste of money. I bought several packages and placed them in different areas, the mice are attracted to them and eat the bait, but trap never trips. I have added bait several times, and the mice stand right on the trap eating the bait and it stays open. I’m thinking of video taping this to make a funny video which would actually be a total embarrassment for Tomcat. Since I didn’t save my receipt, I can’t get my money back but maybe I can keep others from flushing their cash down the drain.

These traps don't work well. I replaced 2 of the old type ( wooden base & spring Tomcat traps I was using) with these plastic ones because the store I go to ran out of the older type. I caught 5 mice with the old traps so far,but threw out the first 2 mice along with the traps. After having the bait taken from the plastic traps 3 times, I replaced it with the older style trap at the same location & caught a mouse that night. I'll stay with the old reliable traps.

I hate mice. I have been putting off trying to trap them for over a month. Finally just couldn't stand it anymore. Decided on these traps because I could catch them, not touch them, and could reuse the traps. I've also read many negative reviews and just don't understand why. The traps are easy to use, economical, and are working quite well. I have used them now for 3 days and have caught 8 mice-yeah pretty disgusting there were that many. ( Plus I must have pretty lazy cats-lol! ) Wasn't sure I could do this but the Tomcat traps make it easier for me to catch and get rid of these awful mice!

These are the absolute worst traps. They were nothing but mouse feeding stations. TomCat used to be a good product, but these are not effective - UNLESS!! - you are planning on keeping the mice as pets. I placed one baited trap & the bait kept disappearing; so I decided to bait & set both traps. Next morning all bait is GONE!! and mouse is "still running @ large". Poor design. I will go back to using the PIC corporation mouse traps; I've never had a mouse steal the bait from them.

The trap does not spring--the mice were able to enter trap, cleanly lick off the peanutbutter that was smeared over the bait area, and the trap never closed! Same result over repeated tries.

Good: I set only one trap, FOLLOWING the instructions. Only difference was I used peanut butter instead of the TOMCAT brand bait. I had seen one mouse crawling it's nasty tail out of the top of my stove and my mission was SEEK AND DESTROY! I set it out one night, when I walked in the next day it was CAUGHT! Dead as a door nail. I am relieved! And I plan to buy a few more and set them up for any possible "family" member. They are indeed SUPER easy to set up. The negative reviews are probably not following the directions properly. But I am a petitie woman and have no problem holding it open as I baited it, then set it down IN THE MOST LIKELY MOUSE PATH (have you seen the mouse in a certain area? running along a certain wall? Behind a garbage can? ) those would all be good places. So as I said it was dead the very next day. DOWNSIDE: The claims of being reusable: Umm not so much. I mean for me the mouse's head was in the trap while the rest of the body wasnt. The illustration on the package would lead to you to think it's big enough to cover the whole mouse and you wont have to look at it. And if your anything like me, u can't stomach the site of them. I dare not, reach down and grab it then squeeze the corpse out, as the package suggests. Instead disposal would be maybe sweeping the whole mess inside a dustpan then throwing the dustpan with the mouse away!! YUCK! lol So not reusable. FOR ME and people who are skeeved out at the thought if rinsing it off and putting it down again with mouse bits on it. Other than that, it's GREAT! I will only be buying these from now on. More effective then the snap traps, and quicker than the the poison. EVIDENCE of the death. Nice product.

The other 4 were cleaned off without shutting. Take a knife to it and it works. I guess mice are smarter than knives...

About 1 in 5 traps (20%) will not set even right out of the package, others fail to reset after 1 or 2 uses. I would advise testing the product in the store before purchasing. I remove the traps from the package and check that they will set before I purchase them.

They caught the mice fine the first time, but could not be set after that. I would not recommend these traps at all.

I don't know if it has to be quite so touchy, but mice are quick, smart, and they don't weigh much. If the trap is not sensitive, it won't catch them. I don't understand the people that say they don't work. If you can set these traps, they should work. Some of these negative reviews look fake to me. The second trap I was unable to get to set and stay open. It's not a problem with the spring - it snaps shut just fine. The problem is with the trigger. I was hoping this site would have some information on how to make it a little less sensitive. It should have some adjustment and I will look at it again in the morning to see if I can find a way to get it to work.
