The alarm is not very loud. We bought it for our RV to let us know when the generator ran out of gas during the night. The flashing light and alarm combo does what it is supposed to do. The unit works very well.

I purchased this alarm to use on my freezer outlet. The freezer is in the basement and connected to a GFCI outlet. The GFCI periodically trips, thus cutting power to my freezer. The light on the alarm is bright, but the sound is not loud enough for me to hear when I am on the first floor of my home. I will be changing the GFCI outlet to a standard outlet.

I have my father living with me. He is on hi-flow supplemental oxygen via an oxygen concentrator. He sleeps very hard and doesn't wake easily. If the power went out and no one knew, he could possibly die or become brain damaged. I keep this alarm plugged in next to my bed. When the power goes out, I'm immediately awakened by the alarm so that I can switch him over to an emergency oxygen tank until the power comes back on. I don't think the alarm is 86dB but it is sufficiently loud enough to wake the average person.

The power failed at out office. Those offices that do not have windows or are located in the basement appreciated the light that immediately activated. They could remove it from the electrical outlet and carry with them.
