Comments about Reliance® 50gal Electric Water Heater (12 50 DARS):
easy install for average DIYer but it is on the heavy side so you will need a friend if you need to lift it into a drain pan. Love the foam insulation - feel no heat loss at all on sides or top! Comes with additional pipe insulation for in/out piping. I considered this one after reading a number of reviews (it got 5 stars!) & think it's a great buy!
Took only 4 business days to get it delivered to my local ACE store !

Comments about Reliance® 50gal Electric Water Heater (12 50 DARS):
I had to replace an oil-fired water heater which had developed a leak after 7 years. After comparison shopping online, and talking to some water heater dealers, I decided to get an electric water heater, 50 gallon size, 12 year tank life, and no (in my opinion, supefluous) digital display and controls. I chose the Reliance unit because of its features, price and favorable online reviews. I purchased it online through Ace Hardware. It was delivered in 5 days to the nearest Ace store, where I picked it up. I had it installed by professionals, a plumber and an electrician, about 40 feet closer than the old heater, to the majority of faucets in the house. The installation required connecting to existing overhead hot and cold water pipes in the basement, and running a new 240 Volt line from the house's circuit breaker panel The water heater produced hot water very quickly. Because of the shortened path to faucets, the hot water reached the faucets much sooner than it did previously. Thanks to the insulation, the outside of the water heater did not even get noticeably warm, except for the brass TP valve. The factory-set temperature of 120 F enabled me to enjoy showering without having to mix in cold water.

Comments about Reliance® 50gal Electric Water Heater (12 50 DARS):
Seems to be well built. Heat trap nipples are already installed so you don't have to buy a set of those. I do recommend getting Sharkbite connectors and supply lines if you can. Easier to use than compression fittings and no need to solder copper pipe. This would be a good time to replace the cold water shut-off valve too. Just remember to shut off the main water supply valve first.
The only let down, though small, was the installed plastic drain valve. It would be best to replace it with a brass 1/4 turn ball valve before filling the tank. But bring the plastic valve with you when purchasing the new one. A standard boiler drain valve won't work. The 3/4" drain hole is recessed about three inches into the tank. Use lots of pipe dope. You don't want to waste 50 gallons of water if it leaks. Also note: the T and P valve is side mounted about 40" off the floor. I set mine up to drain into a laundry sink using 3/4" schedule 40 PVC.
Installation was relatively easy and straightforward. The unit was very fast at heating water right away. Noticeably warm in 10 minutes, hot in 1/2 hour. This thing is packed with insulation and the outside of the tank actually feels cool. No need for a blanket. I expect to see energy savings over my ten year old 40 gal. tank. Also, not that it matters much, but the color of the tank is actually a medium slate gray with black cover plates. Looks sharp!

Free ship to store was easy. Only had to drive a mile with it rather then 15 miles from the big box stores. No issues so far. Hope the 12 year tank warranty holds.

Comments about Reliance® 50gal Electric Water Heater (12 50 DARS):
Needed to replace a 15 yr old 50 Gal Electric. Shopped some larger Home Improvement stores, but this one has longer Warranty and higher wattage elements for the same price. Installed easily and my wife was extremely happy with the temp of her filled jacuzzi tub. It is a little taller and wider than other 50 gallon heaters, but it has a better/thicker insulation blanket.

Comments about Reliance® 50gal Electric Water Heater (12 50 DARS):
I was searching for a hot water heater with a good reputation, long warranty, and the right size (going in a basement with a low ceiling) this one fit the bill on all counts. Plus the price was right.
When I went into the store to order they told me another guy had just been in earlier in the week to order a Reliance. As the one he had for 28 years just bit the dust.
And lastly my plumber was really impressed with the overall quality.
So all in all a great purchase.
