Comments about Craftsman 4 Drawer Tool Cabinet (00912729):
I bought this as a set with item # 2297307 at my local Ace in November 2014. I originally had them in my big shop because I expanded my mechanics tool set and my other chests were already full. I've have since moved them to my home garage because I bought another "industrial" set for the shop.
First of all, let me say that it IS NOT made of aluminum. I believe that description refers to the main color. It's gray (aluminum?) powder coated steel and the drawers are black.
Secondly, it DOES NOT have ball bearing drawer slides. That's ok with me since none of my high dollar chests have them either. Just squirt some light oil on them a few times a year and they work fine.
Third, the stamped steel "external lock bar" isn't the best security option if you work in a shop with multiple employees eyeing your tools. The key only locks the bar in place and if the bar isn't there, or, someone bends it so that it comes out, the drawers will still open. That isn't an issue for me since my shop is a one man operation. It isn't a problem in my home garage either.
Fourth, assembly is very simple with basic hand tools. You have to at least turn it over to put the casters on-I don't remember if it has side handles but if it does, I didn't use them because mine has always been between a workbench and a wall-just be sure to have a soft surface (I "broke down" the box) so that you don't damage the finish putting it together.
Speaking of the finish, it's very durable and easy to clean. I wipe mine down every couple weeks with Murphy's Oil Soap and it's still like new after over a year of use.
I added a non-matching 26" 3 drawer middle chest to my set for even more storage. I couldn't find a matching middle chest, even at that big Craftsman tool store. It's a standard size though so any of them should fit. I recommend that you measure first to be sure though.
Overall, I highly recommend this and the matching top chest to any DIY'er.
