This was the first product in my recent memory that did what it said it was going to do. Application and coverage specs were spot on and the driveway looks fantastic. Helps to edge the driveway in with a paint brush (just as you would with any product applied with a roller). I used a 3/4 nap 18" roller and I also stirred the product each time before re-filling the roller tray. I also cleaned the driveway first with a pressure washer (gentle nozzle) and hitting any oily areas before washing with simple green. Also let the driveway dry just like the package said to do. I saw some of the negative comments I would bet that they didn't first clean the driveway, didn't stir and probably used the wrong nap on the roller. Lets see what this product does over time, but for now I am a firm believer and very happy customer.

I have sealed my driveway many times before with great results lasting a year or two with traditional sealers. I opted to try this product that apears to be as thin as water at first glance. I followed the directions to a T and even let it cure for two days after I completed. The product a week later is already pealing up and looks very poor compaired to lesser priced products. DO NOT USE!

Comments about RUST-OLEUM CORP Rust-Oleum® Epoxy Shield Blacktop Coating (247471):

The only reason I paid this much for this sealer is I am almost 70 and a woman and cannot lift the huge sealer tubs myself. And it advertised it covered so many square feet that I thought I could use it for 2 seasons. Shocked that 2 gallons only filled half of the container...thin as water...I have a small driveway..two cars can fit up it and did not even cover it all...I think I could have just bought a couple gallons of paint or black stain to do the same thing. I just was so disappointed with this product. But sad to say I can't lift the other containers and really cannot afford someone to do this small job for me. Sealers should come in smaller containers just my opinion. We are not all weight lifters.

Comments about RUST-OLEUM CORP Rust-Oleum® Epoxy Shield Blacktop Coating (247471):

The containers were half full, but did spread quite accurately to the 400 sqft predicted for a driveway in moderately poor condition. My driveway is just under 1000 sqft and I needed 2.25 buckets. I plan on second coating as much as I can with the remaining 3/4's bucket so I don't have to store it. The half-full buckets did make the product very easy to stir and pour. A roller is required for application; or I guess you can spray it as well. Conveniently, in the store, a 12 inch wide roller and paint tray were nearby for $9.95. I didn't like the quality I was observing and roughly 1000 sqft with a 12 wide roller sounded like drudgery. I decided to spring for an 18 inch wide roller, which are very nice because the paint roller itself is supported on both ends. This was, essentially, using a professional tool and it was a little pricey at $21, the rolls were $9—however, worth the investment. No question.
This stuff does spread like paint, it's nice. I've squeegeed my driveway several times in the past, which is THEE reason I put it off as long as I can. It's just a task that really sucks. Nobody in their right mind would wake up and say, "HONEY! I GET TO SEAL THE DRIVEWAY TODAY!!" But the paint roller was actually pretty slick. For one thing, it's nowhere near as messy. If fact it's so un-messy that cleanup amounted to throwing away nine dollar paint rollers—each useful for about a third of a driveway. They do wear out quickly. But overall, application is, comparatively, an absolute walk in the park—cautioning you to spend the money and get the 18 inch roller. The whole job took about 3 hours, but I'd done some prep work earlier so it was just sweep and paint today. Anyway, I highly recommend the product. The cost for my driveway came to about 190 bucks. A professional quote came in at $490, so I think I saved $300 and have a nice paint roller.

Comments about RUST-OLEUM CORP Rust-Oleum® Epoxy Shield Blacktop Coating (247471):

I bought 4 gallons for my 1160 sq ft driveway (based on claimed coverage of 600 sq ft per 2 gal). I followed the directions carefully, using a 9", 1/2" nap, roller. At the end of the first pail, I had barely done 200 sq ft. My driveway is in excellent condition otherwise, but it is still difficult to get the stuff into small divots. I would've needed at least 3 times as much as they said I would. This stuff is like thin black paint. It splatters everywhere and is rather messy to work with. Also, you are applying it with a 9" roller (squeegee is not an option), so do the math and figure out how time consuming it's going to be to do a 1100 sq ft driveway! (something I did not consider). I also tried spraying it on with my power sprayer and made such a mess that I just gave up and called a local sealing company to finish the job. What I did put down looks good 1 week later. This may be ok for a very small driveway in perfect condition, otherwise I would avoid.

Have used many of the "top line products" to seal driveway. Even had professional co. do their top of line sealing job. This stuff worked the best so far. I sealed cracks with a more vicious type tar sealer. Allowed that to dry for several days. Then applied this product as directed with a roller, alot easier than using a squeegee as with other products. Did 2 coats, covered per sq. foot as advertised. Holding up better than all other coatings that I have previously used. Very pleased with results. Intend on reapplying every spring and fall. Should only need 1 coat each time.

when using any driveway sealer u should let it sit outside for about 4 to 5 hours on a hot day or until its good and warm before coating and it only takes a thin coat on the driveway. Its easy to put it on to thick. So just remember it will cover 600-800sqft it has alot of times for me but just always apply a nice thin coat and only use in warm weather when it gets cool just wait til next year. It will cover good and work good and should last the full 10yrs before needing a new coat good product guys thanks rustoleum.

Comments about RUST-OLEUM CORP Rust-Oleum® Epoxy Shield Blacktop Coating (247471):

I was hesitant about buying this product after reading the reviews here and elsewhere. But, I needed something that would dry fast before a neighborhood party the next day and this product dries fast compared to other sealing products.

I applied it as recommended with a roller. It took three tubs for a 900 sq. ft. driveway that was 9 years old and had never been sealed. I did use their patching product on a few areas that were dented or cracking. I've sealed other driveways with the tar-based product and I'd say this one takes three to four times as long to apply. That, and the higher cost, are the only drawbacks. The end result is very nice. Three weeks later it still looks great, no fading and no peeling. We'll see how it looks after a Minnesota winter, but so far, so good.

You will need 3 to 4 times more product than the label says. My normal $100 driveway sealing project costed me $400. I had to go back to the store 2 extra times because the stuff does not cover as stated on the label. Plus the product is now turning gray after just 2.5 months! Not worth it.

Was going to coat a 800 ft d'way, but at what it cost will only cover top pad in front of garage. It does look good, and epoxy is a plus over regular coatings. The adhesion should be better. My asphalt guy said other than looks NO sealer is ever required, so I left a 5 year old section uncoated. Other than turning gray I think he's right. It's only for looks anyway.
P.S. I do paint adhesion testing as a profession.

I bought this product solely based on the name "Rust-Oleum", what a mistake, first the container is only 1/2 full, the coverage is only 1/3 to 1/2 what they say, and the cost is 3 - 4 times what you would have spent for any other sealer. That being said if you don't mind spending over [$], for something that should cost less than $30 then ok.I will never buy a rust-oleum product again for anything

Doesn't cover nearly the area it said it would. 4 buckets of blacktop sealer cover my driveway, which is uncracked and in good condition. Based on specs on can, I bought 3 buckets of the Rustoleum (on sale for [$]) and my driveway is only half done. Now price is up to [$] a can. I could have used regular 10-year sealer and had the driveway done for $100. Instead, I've already spent $120 and still need at least 2 or 3 more buckets that will be another $120 - $150 depending on whether I can find it on sale this time of year, which is doubtful, since everyone is now selling snow shovels and snow throwers.

Waited for ideal conditions to apply coating on clean dry surface. Typical home driveway with no cracks or holes. The 2 gallon pail only covered 100sq ft. not the 600-800sf advertised. I called the company and the quality control tech said the product is not supposed to seal the asphalt but to just coat the top. I guess it's just supposed to be driveway "paint". Terrible product.

I used this product, and it worked great on my driveway! Easy to apply, and has held up well. Love Rust-Oleum products!

I just coated my asphalt drive way use this product, it was approx. 87 degree temperature. I waited 2 days before I parked my SUV on the newly coated drive way. My drive way looks great until I start finding "hot tire pick up spots" on my drive way. I used some other blacktop sealers before, but this is my first time to see hot tire pick up spots. I guess you do not want to use this product if you live in a hot summer weather area and you park your car on the driveway.

I am doing a 2800 sq. ft. area. Bought 5 pails and did half the job. Now store is out and no other store in area has. Found some in store 120 miles away. Will drive 240 round trip miles in order to finish. Menards here not to get in for three weeks.I would say coverage is closer to 200 sq.ft.then what they say at 800 sq.ft. Get your wallet out. My $160.00 job turned into $400.00.

DO NOT USE!
