The Quiet Collar baffle on my Evolution Excel is a great new innovation compared to previous baffles that were not removable. It muffles the noise of the disposer, which is great as I prepare food and clean up the kitchen. I especially like the fact that I can take it out and clean it by hand or throw it in the dishwasher. This really helps to reduce some of the smell you get when food particles build up in the disposer.

When I bought an Evolution series disposer, I thought I was getting quality and the sound muffling was a bonus. I did not know that quieter operation would sacrifice the actual purpose of a disposer. In order for any food and water to go down into the disposer, you have to constantly push open this terribly designed baffle so that the food and water goes down. It is very slow and makes cleaning up dishes an even longer process. Why design something like this if it causes more work for the end user? What a joke!

Comments about In-Sink-Erator® Quiet Collar Sink Baffle (QCB-AM):

We upgraded our garbage disposal to an Evolution Compact and love the performance and quietness of the disposal. However, the design of this Baffle is terrible. As noted by everyone else, the baffle is too efficient - it does not let water or food scraps enter the disposal without having to push them down by hand or with a utensil. Is there a replacement baffle that works better? Please take note of the overwhelming negative product feedback on your website and address this issue and/or recommend or provide a replacement baffle.

I think the insinkerator is fantastic. The baffle should be rated five stars for effective drain and food stopper as well as silverware grind preventer. Nothing gets past this baffle. I agree with the other consumers. Why isn't this problem addressed publicly by the company? Since we are all having the same comment of the product please tell us openly what can be done to fix it. Please. In the mean time, Thanks for a great garbage disposal.

Comments about In-Sink-Erator® Quiet Collar Sink Baffle (QCB-AM):

I recently remodeled my kitchen and purchased two Insinkerator Contour SelectPlus garbage disposals. The disposal itself is great, but I am very disappointed with this baffle. In order to use it, I have to remove the baffle from the sink to keep food flowing into the disposer. I'm sure that whatever bacteria the collar prevents from splashing into the sink ends up on my fingers since I must continually pull out the baffle to allow water and food to drain. I do recommend the disposer, but definitely not the collar baffle. Unfortunately, I have to buy another one as one of mine has disappeared.

Comments about In-Sink-Erator® Quiet Collar Sink Baffle (QCB-AM):

I am sure this is a good unit from a builders standpoint. The problem is that the quiet collar that makes this unit quiet prevents food from entering eradicator causing water to stop flowing (draining) and build up in sink. Only way to over come this is have a spoon ready to push food through hole so water can drain Because the water will not drain, the food will not go down and everything gets backed up with dirty water and food. The whole purpose for a garbage disposal is to make life easier, I find myself throwing waste in the garbage so I will not need to go throw the whole procedure every time I use the disposal. I would rather have noise with a unit that works than one that does not.

We purchased a new Insinkerator. We chose the largest one and this baffle came with it. Even very small food particles will not pass through. I have to pull it out in order to let food into the drain. It is very disappointing- especially considering we chose the very best disposal.

Comments about In-Sink-Erator® Quiet Collar Sink Baffle (QCB-AM):

We just moved back into the renovated kitchen last week and already had the contractor back to check the plumbing because of the water flow, which checked out fine. After a houseful on Christmas Day, I decided to search the internet regarding the slow-flow of our drain. We purchased the Evolution Excel after reading some articles regarding efficiencies of the grinders. Wish I had the foresight to read the reviews on this website, as they are consistent with our experience....SLOW FLOW and BACK-UP of water into the sink. We had an old insinkerator that came with the house 12 years ago, decided to go all new with a brand who earner our trust. We wish we would have saved the money at this point. The only way to get the water not to back up, even after running the disposal, is to run the water really slow. Insinkerator didn't get any good reviews as we talked about it all day when someone was in the sink. No one could believe that a such a trusted brand could have stubbed their toe so badly on the design. You hurt your own reputation, we didn't do it. One word, FRUSTRATING.

Comments about In-Sink-Erator® Quiet Collar Sink Baffle (QCB-AM):

I agree with the reviews, the bafftle covers so much of the dispenser, no food particles can pass through, not even the pulp from orange juice. I did cut parts of mine out, but still have not had acceptable results. I have been having to remove the baffle every week or so, spray the entire product with Lysol/Clorox cleaner to get rid of all the mold that developed due to no air circulation. This week, I decided I was tired of constantly cleaning out the gunk of mold, and threw the baffle away. Any ideas??? Now I just have a big hole that spews water up when in use.

I have a new kitchen and was so excited for my new Insinkerator Disposal but this baffle is extremely disappointing. While it is quiet, it does not drain quickly enough and my sink constantly backs up when just running water. I thought maybe it was the new installation done improperly but after reading all the other reviews here I see many have the same problem. Also, the food does not easily go down and I always have to push it through . I am so sorry that I didn't save my old one from before the renovation. It was 30 years old but I had none of these issues with it.

Re: Quiet Collar Sink Baffle Had the Evolution Pro Compact for two years. Finally irritated enough in regards to the SINK BAFFLE. All complaints and problems described in previous reviews are valid. I also wish that I have kept my old one. Let us face it - cleaning left over food from dishes is no fun. I remove the baffle every day to make sure that no food items are stuck and nothing has accumulate on the little ledge where the baffle rests. There is one problem that is not connected with the disposal. No. 1 - all faucets are low flow (Govt. Regulation) No.2 - not enough water pressure to force the food particles down. - Engineers will tell you that in order to keep pipes clean you need a certain force of water pressure. Food items that used to go through the disposal are now put in a plastic bag and thrown away with the regular garbage. Can be stinky. The new baffle is poorly designed. Why? Probably a govt. regulation to keep us safe, because we are not smart enough to keep spoons, etc. from going down. With my old one I used a regular metal strainer to avoid this problem. But when I took it out I was able to flush the food down to the blades. With the newly designed baffle the strainer does not fit very well anymore. How I SOLVED my problem - I used scissors and removed sections of the rubber baffle. I am not quite there yet, but it is a little better and the baffle does not try to pull my kitchen gloves off anymore. Probably will perform some more "surgery". SUGGSTION: Make the old design available to customers who are responsible and cautious. Let the PEOPLE decide what they want and what works for them. I don't think that should be to hard and you might sell some more insinkerators. That is called customer service. Jerica, I saw you apologized everytime there was a negative comment. The Top people/management needs to look at this and make a decision. Thank you.

This baffle does not drain the sink fast enough, even with the disposal running, and as a result the sink starts filling up with water. It is not a problem with a clog in the disposal or drain pipe, as it drains quickly when the baffle is removed. Insinkerator really messed up with this design.

We had two Evolution Excels installed in our kitchen when we remodeled nearly two years ago, both came with this baffle. It absolutely does diminish the noise of the disposer, which is very nice. But it completely negates the efficiency of the disposer by causing extreme water back up. All other Insinkerator disposers we have owned over the years work as they should, turn them on and waste and water are sucked out of the sink into the unit and ground for disposal down the drain. With this baffle we have to physically open the baffle simply to drain water out of the sink and also have to manually stuff whatever food waste is in the sink down into the disposer. We are pretty conservative with what we put in the disposer and this baffle should be able to handle it all, but it just causes a mess. I've tried to deal with this for far too long now. Not sure what to do about it yet, but I hope there is a remedy.

What a surprise to buy a top of the line disposal only to find that now I must use my sink differently to take advantage of it. The baffle design absolutely helps make the disposal quieter by 'allowing water to pool' on it forming a sound barrier. That's great if you are an engineer whose only design parameter was to make it quieter. With a large farm sink, now anything poured in the sink to go down the drain must be poured slowly and/or we must insert something into the baffle to open it to allow liquids and food debris to go down the drain quickly without backing up under anything else that may be sitting in the sink. .A+ for making it quieter. F- for helping users accomplish what a disposal is really for.

I just received this item (plus a spare) and the bottom line is that the hole is too small and doesn't allow the sink to drain without water backing up. I just ordered the $7 version, which is what I should have ordered in the first place. I thought this version would have baffled the unit's noise better than the $7 version but I was wrong here as well. Its no quieter.

The disposal works great but that baffle restricts the water from going down the drain way too slowly. I am thinking of taking a pair of scissors and cutting out those flexible points so that the water will go down the drain properly. The company needs to redesign that baffle.

I've always had insinkerator disposals but my latest upgrade to Evolution Essential, 3/4 hp comes with this baffle that doesn't allow the water to drain because the center hole is so small. It is such an annoyance and disappointing that such a good product is ruined by this inferior design. I thought only mine was bad which brought me to this site to replace it and I see that practically everyone is having the same problem. So what are you going to do about this, Insinkerator?

The sink baffle that I had had begun to have a "bad breath" odor that I could not get out - even tried boiling with baking soda like Mom used to do! The replacement is great, however, it seems to drain a bit slower than the old - I suppose that is just the stiffer, newer rubber. Ordering and shipping was fast and easy!

I just finished a kitchen remodel and I am searching for ideas to modify (cut) this collar baffle! I am so tired of having to remove the baffle so that my sink will drain! It is a messy nightmare and when I mentioned this to my sister, who is a kitchen/bath designer, she acknowledged that EVERYONE complains about this product. She told me to fabricate/cut mine in order to allow the water to drain from the sink faster. I'm not sure what to do. I know I hate having to go through this each time I use my beautiful new sink and faucet. When I pull the baffle out of the flange and the disposer is working- the noise is awful and I get splashed with dirty sink water! Yuck.

This baffle fits so tightly, with such small openings for water, that the water doesn't drain, resulting in a sink that fills with dirty water when I'm simply trying to rinse vegetables or wash a pan. In addition, food must be manually stuffed into the disposer, with a wooden spoon or something. The force of running water doesn't chase it down the drain as in a normal disposer. The idea of putting the baffle in a dishwasher is terrific -- I just wish it were a baffle that worked. I may just cut out a portion of it, but for such an expensive machine that seems ridiculous.

Works well and quiet but the baffle problem as previously reported makes this product unacceptable. I am surprised it passed review before release. What were the engineers thinking. I may have to replace the unit if a replacement baffle does not become available

For some reason, the replacement sink baffle that I purchased at our local hardware store was not effective. This Insinkerator product that I purchased 2 weeks ago is everything I wanted it to be. Great price for complete satisfaction!

I love my new InsinkErator but I would strongly recommend a new baffle design. The reduced noise is great but the fact that food will not go down easily is programmatic. I don't like the water backing up with food floating around, which is particularly difficult for those of us with sink protectors (grate). So the engineers should go to work on a different design. Happy New Year! Penny

Little did I think something so simple could be designed so poorly. We replaced our ISE Septic Assist disposer of 8 years (bad lower seal) with the updated model. The updated model came with the new Quiet baffle design. With an opening that is literally the size of 1/2" and baffles that don't fold easily, while it does keep things quieter, you will find yourself manually pushing down about 95% of the food scraps in your sink versus being able to rinse them down. Bring back the old design!!
