Comments about BASEMENT WATCH DOG Basement Watchdog Combination Primary and Back-Up Sump Pump System (BW4000):
The Watchdog is a replacement for a basic sump pump that lasted 22 years. I almost didn't buy it cause it was fairly expensive, especially when the backup battery and acid had to be ordered, too. However, I guess you get what you pay for. I ordered it delivered to my local Ace Hardware, who provides extra technical knowledge when I have questions about my projects. Installation took a few hours because I was taking my time and being careful. Installing the watchdog itself with the built-in backup pump was simple. The only thing that slowed me down was pouring the sulfuric acid into the battery. It is a little tricky and must be done in accordance with the directions. After attaching the backup battery and controller, I got a light on the controller that was of concern. So, I called tech support and they helped me troubleshoot and clear up the issue. I tested the system after installing and after a couple of medium size storms, it appears to be working flawlessly. I am very pleased, so far. I will be more pleased with it, if it continues to work this well after the warranty runs out.

I bought the Basement Watchdog 7.5h battery with the pump, and it was bad... returning it was sort of a hassle. But the pump seems to be good, well thought out, etc. So far so good.

Comments about BASEMENT WATCH DOG Basement Watchdog Combination Primary and Back-Up Sump Pump System (BW4000):
OK, I inherited my folk's house. The basement sump was only 13 inches wide and I had to find something to fit it. After having over 2 ft. of water in the basement twice within 3 months, I went with this unit. Shortly after I installed and plumbed the unit, we had a severe thunderstorm with lots of rain. I was working 30 miles away and we were sent home. When I entered my little small community, the power was out. We had had torrential rainfall. I entered my home, grabbed the flashlight and checked the basement. The water was about 8 inches deep, yet the pump was working continuously on battery power and proceeded to do so until the actual power was restored 9 hours later. Yes, it did not "power" out the water but it did continue to run. Very impressive actually. Come to find out, my little small town has had a problem with their own tile system. Only until this gets repaired will I ever have real relief. Regardless, this unit worked very well condidering what it was up against. I will buy another to have as a spare. Easy to install and plumb and the battery power is very good.
Pros
Cons
- Noisy

If I were to select a battery backup unit again it would not be this brand.
