Comments about Century® Wood Stove (CB0004):

I live in WY at 7200' with most of the winter being at 20 degrees or less. I burn lodgepole pine that I cut locally. Living room where the fireplace and stove were at is at the end of the house with a 12' vaulted ceiling in the room.

Two winters ago with 1100 sqft and a fireplace I had electric bills averaging $250 (all electric in the house) and the house stayed in the low-mid 60s with the thermostats at 60 and I used up about 2.5 cords of wood running the fire quite regularly.

Last summer I converted a garage bay to house and replaced the fireplace insert with this stove with about 10' of black pipe and about 4' HT chimney pipe on the outside. So with 1300 sqft I averaged $85 electric bills (still all electric, though house was warm enough that was able to do clothes drying racks in living room with the stove and think that helped a bit) had temps in the house at about 70 degrees usually (only turned on thermostats when went out of town for two weekends) and went through about 3 cords of wood though used the stove longer this year since worked well and was still freezing at night into mid-June.

I love this stove. It starts up and has the room hot in about 1/2 hour, takes a little time to spread through the house with the vaulted ceiling holding a bit of the heat- but it warms up everything including the garage addition. Only had to start a fire about once a week or two (anytime I cleaned out the ash) since could pack it at night, damper down, and there would still be coals to throw wood on in the morning and it would start back up just fine. My one recommendation is rather than doing 20" logs or so that it 'can' fit lengthwise is to do about 14" logs and do them depthwise, I found that the air flows nicely from front to back and could get a better burn stuffing in that direction so I'll be cutting my logs a little shorter this year so they all fit that way. I also did clean the chimney midway through winter as had a bit of buildup (started using some creosote remover additive at end of winter, will try adding a scoop of it once a week and see if that helps next year).

Comments about Century® Wood Stove (CB0004):

I have had this fire all winter I live in North Dakota , in winter it gets down to minus 40degrees c, the stove was to heat a shop of 2000sq feet which has 6 inch insulation and only one 32 inch wide access door . This fire used a bobcat bucket full of wood every 2 days , the fan is so noisy you can here it 40 feet away . The heat exchange from the fire to the room is minimal, but the smoke it puts out , well you would think the building was on fire. The fire managed to get and hold the temp in the shop at 48 degrees Fahrenheit I cannot run it another winter, as the amount of wood it uses . So if anyone wants to buy a 6 month old stove you can have it for a $100 bucks . [@]

Comments about Century® Wood Stove (CB0004):

Just purchased this stove. Chose it for its size. Nice size firebox for the BTU output. It heats the main floor of our 1800 sq ft house very well. Right now it has the inside temp almost to 80 degrees F with an outside temp of 25F. Our house is only moderately insulated. We placed it in a corner at one end of the house. With the right kind of firewood the burn time will easily get you through the night. I noticed right away that is doesn't push smoke out as soon as you open the door like our Drolet does. So far the only thing I would change is the way the door swings to the left instead of to the right like I am used to. The door sports a nice big window for optimum viewing of the flame. Ample size ash tray is convenient. There is a small 4" trap door in firebox which you manually open to push out the ashes.
If you are looking for a well built stove made out of heavy metal and sells for under $1k buy with confidence.

[...] Very hevy bring help. The only surprise to me was the proper venting that meets standard code cost more then the stove. used it for 2 weeks now and love it. Burns clean, no smoky smell, don't forget if you do this yourself check into the 6 " venting needed. One other thing, all metals are coated with oil at mfg the fist time you fire it up you will see the oil burn off and perhaps set off your smoke detectors . it will go away in just a few minuts.

I have owned this stove for 3 winters use. I live in northern wisconsin on Lake Superior where it can get very cold. i.e.(weeks below zero temps, and that is not wind chill either)
I use this stove in a mobile home as my main heat and during these low temps it struggles to keep up, you must open draft and use lots of wood. The result is you do not have a long burn time (4-6 hrs) however if temps are moderate and you can shut draft you will get a 8-9 hrs burn.
Also, its claim of 2000 sq ft heating is a bit of a strech in the real world of low temps. If you have a 2000 sq ft box in 35 degree temps maybe,I wish they had a sq ft larger firebox model. I also cut my wood at about 16-18 inches so i can front load more wood into box. Other than that, it is a fine, rugged, easy to use stove. I would buy this stove again esp; If it had larger model.

We bought this stove four years ago and have been very pleased. There were not problems while installing it.It has heated our 1800 sq. foot home just fine. The damper responds well to temperature adjustments and we love seeing the fire through the glass! The box is good size too. We didn't use the ash tray very often. I found the glass cleaner to be the best ever. I would buy this stove again.
