Searched all over local and online for a wood insert to fit my fireplace. Settled on two a Drolet insert and this Century model both made by SBI(Stove Builders International). Both are very similar but choose Century because of angled exhaust which made my install very easy. Was going to hire professional to install stove and liner but was shocked he wanted $1500 to do it. Purchased liner kit thru Rockford Chimney Supply as Ace does not carry them but if they did I would have bought from Ace and they were great! Ace should sell their liner kits! They are another great value! Decided on installing with the help of my father and friend of the family. Worst part was removal of old damper after that install was a breeze and completed in two hours. This is a perfect DIY project. Stove works perfect and heats my house great. Everyone that comes over and sees it wants one. Will modify blower with a thermodisc to turn blower on and off based on stove temp. Bottom line you will be very impressed with this stove and its one of the best things I did to improve my home.

Good value but I see no way that anyone can be impressed with the output of the blower. The suction side of the blower is pulling from the same cavity that the supply side is blowing into. I just can not see how an engineer can design the unit like this. Installed, the unit pulls very little from the back of the fan enclosure....as it is pulling from the said cavity.....thus cavitating. I successfully modified the enclosure to allow the fan to pull from behind the enclosure and put positive pressure on the cavity and thus increase air flow. I used valley tin and aluminum tape for the modification. It blows very well now. If you do the mods, make sure to cover the electrical prongs on the motor with a good bit of electrical tape. Also, do not make the mods while the unit is plugged in. You could easily arc the connections on the motor with the valley tape.... see above statement about electrical tape. If you are handy and know how to do these types of things then go ahead and buy it, mod the enclosure and you will have a good unit. I am happy with it now but was deeply dissapointed in it at first. It is heating an upstairs area of almost 2500 square feet. Will it heat it(2500sq/ft) by itself... no. However, when running at full heat with a good load of hickory...it will stabilize the temp around 72...sometimes it will move it up to 73, but the heat does have to run(gas) every now and then but it does not run long.......It definitely helps out that is for sure. But keep in mind, this could be an airflow thing.... the back of the house is far away from where the unit is. The faceplate is attractive........but some of the pieces that come with it for the install make no sense to me on how they are supposed to be used.... It might be possible that I got the wrong pieces or something......when I say pieces I am referring to the support rails that go on the back of the faceplate. I ended up just installing the faceplate together without the rails. The instructions are of very little use. If others have not had the same experience with the faceplate........then I received some wrong pieces. Don't buy the unit if you are expecting a lot of heat blowing out......and not prepared to do the mods. The idea behind these units is to get the fire going good and hot, then cut the air so it will slow burn, with the blower running the air from the room through the unit and pulling a good bit of heat out of it. Now, it will "radiate" heat fairly well, especially on a full burn......however, that takes in to play how much and how fast you are trying to heat it.........I've heard others complain of blower issues from other manufactures.....don't know why this is so difficult to get right.... Anyway, overall I would still recommend the unit..... simply because of the price that you can get it for....... and yes, it gets cold in Alabama..20 degrees is not uncommon.....although this year (2011/2012) so far is the mildest winter I can remember.... we havn't seen freezing much this year.....twice I think.
Oh yeah, the hidden ash catch......ash gets caught under the door threshold and you have to take a stick or something to get it out......not a big deal, but it is something that aggrivates me as I like to get all of the ash out when I clean the ash out.

The item was not easy to install the stove pipe connection is larger than the standard size and a great deal of adaptation. In addition the fire bricks came broken.....four.
I have a suggestion for the firebox handle. The positioning is awkward and often my hand gets pinched by the box.

just went through my second winter with this stove, have burned 6 chords between the 2 seasons and it's still working great. I've asked a lot out of this stove, we are heating 2000 sq feet of 40 year old house with single pane windows and oil heat. We were able to keep most of the house at 65 degrees during 20 degree weather. The furnace only burned 100 gallons of oil this season and I,m hoping after replacing the windows and doors this spring we will be even better off next season.

I have owned wood burning stove's for over forty years and this is one of the best! A lot of thought has gone in on the design, from the heat tubes to the fire brick baffle. Easy to install even for a sixty plus man, had it putting out heat in two hours!

This insert was fairly easy to install. The heat output, using dried hardwood, is amazing. We priced several inserts and this one saved us over $2,000.00. We actually have to open the sliding glass door to our sunroom when it is turned up on high. The fan is quiet enough for me to hear the TV. I was amazed at how long a load of wood lasts in it. Don't be afraid to buy this unit. I would purchase it agin.

No complaints at all. Installation was straightforward and performance has exceeded expectations. Even without the blower on, this fireplace creates enough radiant heat that we often have to keep the windows open a bit. The firebox is a little small but we had to go with this as our masonry fireplace is fairly modest so the fit has been good. An excellent product for a very reasonable price.

Here is the update starting my 3rd fall with this stove. It puts the heat out. I still say its not a "high end" brand stove but my warm bones dont know the difference. I still cant get an over night burn. I can get it burn into the wee hours. When I get up the next morning there are enough coals to start a fire right back up. It helps to experiment with differnet kinds of wood to see what works best in your insert. I am surprised to hear all the complaints about a noisy blower. I watch tv and dont even notice its on and its always on high.I am also suprised to hear about the complaints about the blower not workiong at all. The squirrel cage motor sucks air in at the bottom and blows out of the top and sides with 90% of the air coming out of the top. The air wash system works pretty well to. As for the damper, since its not a high end stove neither is the damper, but it still gets the job done. I still love this stove and do not regret buying it for one second. It has been money well spent and has paid for itself over and over. If I could change one thing about this stove: I would add an ash pan to it. Shutting it down to clean it with a box full of hot coals can be a tricky pain as well as messy. But when burning wood that's part of the deal. I bought an ash vacuum and its great! All in all, I still say there is not a stove on the market that can compare for the price. By the way, for those who think this insert may be too small, century now makes a model 2900 large. Good luck to all!

I looked at about every unit on the market. The Century quality for the price could net be compared with. I am a licensed General Contractor. This unit would be very easy to install for the average layman.
Ace Hardware also had the most competitive pricing as well. Had it shipped to my local Ace Hardware, they loaded it with a fork lift and gone withing a few minutes. Need extra manpower on the other end though...

Delivery was prompt and the local ace staff was helpful. Installation was easy, and it looks good. Fire box is small, but the unit is well sized for the room it's in. Still, it would be nice if it were a bit larger. Only did two test fires so far, and it does crank out the heat and the glass door lets you see the fire, very nice...it's the little engine that could. The fan is hardly "ultraquiet". Overall and for the price a good stove. I would like to rewrite this in March to see if I still like it.

I think my house might be a bit large for this stove, but it works great and is quite a value. The install was expensive. The fan needs a thermostat control and more power. Otherwise it is a great buy.

The stove is fine, appears to be able to produce enough heat but the blower is WAY WAY WAY under powered. I called the manufacture but was told they only have that size blower so there was nothing they can do for me. I tried/barrowed a larger blower from another stove and WOW what a difference. With the blower that comes with the stove I barely heat 300sqft to 65 degrees. With the more powerful blower I raised it 5 degrees in less than 10 minutes. SO, I know the stove can produce the heat but the blower can't push it. Yes the blower is quiet but... This is a huge disappointment as I bought the stove to supplement heat on the first floor of 900sqft, not doing it :-( I read the comments and the estimated square footage from the manufacture and felt confident that it would heat my first floor, again disappointed. I now need to find a more powerful blower that will fit this stove so I can get the proper heat and looks proper as well. The fire box is smaller than I expected, but my own fault there, I didnt educate myself by going to store and looking at similar size to see it in person. Loading is difficult after a full day of burning to many coals and ash, I am burning oak and maple mostly. Burn lasting about 3-4 hours. NOT IMPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!

I have about 2000 square feet house. I have never been able to get it to burn through the night to keep the house at 70, but I hope maybe its just the wood I am using. I also am putting in new windows soon. My windows may be loosing too much heat. I had to modify the the fan, which was easy to do. This fan is really the biggest fan you can put in a small area. The problem with the design is that the fan has not guide to direct the flow of air, keeping the air from the inlet of the fan from sucking air from the output of the fan. What I did was remove the whole assembly (2 Screw) and make a cutout out of a cereal box ( I might switch to high temp gasket if this breaks down from heat)that has a hole cut the size of the out put of the fan. Basically a large rectangle with a smaller rectangle hole for the fan out put. This makes the fan draw air from the front and push it through the stove. Now I can run the fan at half speed and get plenty of air flow. On High speed it is almost too much. I use it on high if the house is cold and I need heat really fast and then turn it down as the house is warm. My wife complains of the dust though. I am problably going to try to install another fan on top the stove with a filter. Mybe my dust is coming from the wood I burn. I would like to know if anyone else has alot of dust.

We purchased this stove just before the Fall started(we live in NE). It has turned out to be one of the best purchases we have ever made. The only downside is that the fire box itself is a little small and the heater is loud. Other than that, it is perfect. We have an old house, old windows and very drafty. We spend most of our time in a 750 sq. area and it was 10 degrees this morning and our house was about 65 degrees inside. That is quite incredible. We have saved so much in oil. We haven't even had any delivered. I would recommend this stove to anyone. Great price for what it does.

After lots of research, and reading countless reviews, I opted to buy this insert and pick up at my local Ace...First off, what a simple process it was. upon getting the unit home (its quite heavy)my brother in law and I carried it up a flight of stairs with an hand truck. I un boxed it and had it in the fireplace within a half hour. leveled it out, put the surround together, plugged in the vent liner I had previously installed, and was off and running. I cannot say enough about this unit. IT IS AWESOME!!!!..... while shopping, price wasn't so much of a factor as performance and looks. i wanted a unit that would sit flush enough into the fireplace without any protrusion. it is simple, built well, and heats like you would not believe. Our house is about 4800 Sq Ft, its a Historic Brownstone row style house that was built in 1815 ( very Drafty)and it is installed in a fireplace that's in our kitchen area. it heats the whole floor of the house and then some.....no more cold winters for us!...compared to inserts at twice the price, id say unless you were looking for a custom color / unique design, don't pass this one up for the price!

This insert is great. Not only does it help the budget but it works perfect. Yes the blower is not real powerful but if compare to others, its the industry standard. I have a 1200 sq with 2 car garage and it heats it up all of it. With the right wood it will burn all night or if you get up one to reload it will burn all night. The face plate that you order with this is easy to install and makes the whole thing clean and attractive. Worth the effort to drive to the store to pick it up.

This woodstove works well & seems to be in all essential aspects (without the optional upgrades like gold plated doors) as good as the Napolean and Heatilator insert units that I checked out other than their $16-1700 price tags. I installed it in an old heatilator factory-built fireplace with a little modification to the existing unit to get it to fit. I have been using it for about a month now in my 1400 sq ft 2 story house (December into January), the gas central heating still kicks on on a cold night or day, but a lot less than before the installation. Bottom line: It provides more heat for a lot less wood than the original fireplace & it looks good; I am very happy with it.

LOVE this insert..BUT!!..the firebox only will allow 4 split logs at a time and (here's the downfall)I have to clean the ashes out EVERY morning because the ashes from the day before FILL the firebox. If that doesn't bother you I HIGHLY recommend this insert. It heats my entire 1500+ sq ft house easily. P.S. the fans could be ALOT stronger..blows out very little air even on high.

This insert looks large in the photos, when I went to purchase it in person it is acutally pretty small. The firebox didn't look large enough to produce any heat! I nervously purchased it anyway and have been absolutely amazed with this heater! It puts out enough heat to heat my 1480 sqft home! if its 20f outside its 78 inside! On top of that it is SO effiecient! Once I get an established coal bed (about three split logs) I literally have to only feed it a log and hour! (split white oak) Highly Recommend!

Installed this a couple weeks ago to try and cut down on heating oil. I'm heating about 2000 sq feet (1000 lower and 1000 upper) in a 40 year old house with single pane windows. We are able to keep the whole house at 65 deg with temps just below freezing and the closest rooms to the stove at 70. We are able to keep the furnace from coming on until early morning when the fire dies out. This stove is great for the price because the one that would have been ideal for the size of our house was more than double the price. We are only getting 4 or so hours night time burn with fir firewood will be better when we get some hardwood. The fire box is a little small so you have to be creative on stacking the wood for good airflow and the manual states the fan is temp controlled but it isn't so it keeps running even after the stove cools down in the middle of the night. This is the only stove I found with an angled outlet which was a real life saver, there would have been no way to hook up my liner without it due to the tight damper area in my fireplace. The liner came through the damper area and lined up perfectly with the outlet of the stove. The airwash has worked great so far even when the glass gets smoked up from a cold burn it's clean again when we get the stove hot on the next firing.

Manuel directions are incomplete- especially about how to start a fire without smoke pouring in the room. Info sticker left adhesive to front glass. Worst of all is that even after following the directions for first few burnings and the fiberglass insulation on front glass place came unglued on the 3rd burn.

Shopped around and kept coming back to this insert. Century Heating is made by SBI. The same company owns Drolet, Enerzone, and Osburn. Found a Enerzone Dealer close by, who would sell me an insert for 1000.00 more than the Century Heating. This was after the salesman admitted that the Enerzone and Century Heating Model are the exact same. Bought the Century Heating Model and had it installed by my Ace Dealer. Did a great job and I finally fired it up after 2 short burns to cure the paint. All I can say is, "That it rocks!" I can already feel the heat throughout my 1200 sqr Ft home. Someone mentioned that the blower doesn't work. Do they realized that the bottom unit pulls in cold air and hot air comes out the top? Looking forward to cutting back on my heating bills all winter long

Had the unit about two months. Very small fire box, ( 2-3 small pieces max ) fan is very low volume. variable speed switch is useless we keep it on high all the time. Needs a temp fan switch to shut on and off based on temperature. That said, the unit works great, the low volume fan moves enough air to heat our 1950 sq ft house. Packing the wood in last us 6 to 8 hours. We also added a small fan to blow across the top of the stove for circulation.

I debated whether to purchase a pellet or wood stove and decided on wood. After much research I came upon this unit. I read both the positive and negative reviews of this unit and cautiously decided to make the purchase. Highly recommend buying a fireplace liner. The liner varied in prices but was able to find an un-insulated kit for under $400.00. After installing the unit I searched the internet on how to make the unit function more efficiently. Between reading the manual and watching YouTube videos on gasify (principal behind the unit) and properly maintaining a fire the am confident I am getting the most efficiency out of the unit. Needless to say I am exceptionally pleased. I offer the following hints. Only a faint amount of smoke should be detached coming from the chimney. Once the fire gets started lower the controls to get a slow steady burn. Use a medium sized humidifier in the same room as the unit. Make sure that the firebricks are properly adjusted to cover the sides of the unit. This is particularly true near the door. If this is not done the air wash does not clean the lower corners of the glass door. The burn time which others mentioned is actually a combination of about three hours of flame and 3-4 hours of embers. I have a well insulated home and the heat output exceeded my expectations. I've had the unit for almost two months now and based on savings on electricity since installing the unit I will recoup my expenses within 6 months.

Pro: The unit is whisper quiet compared to an humidifier.

Cons: The door handle rotates too far downward when disengaged and will hit the blower assembly if not careful.

Bought this unit about 3 weeks ago. It works great. Overnight burning needs at least ONE get up in the night for a log feed. I did a lot of research and was looking for a unit that would pay for itself in gas savings. This is the best value on the market. The only thing I am trying to figure out is the self cleaning glass? I cleaned the glass once already. Highly recommend this for the people that want a good unit at a great price.
