Comments about Craftsman 1/2 HP Chain Drive Garage Door Opener with 2 Remotes (53930):
Installed easily in our new-build home.
2car garage with single 4 section metal door (by Overhead Doors)
Take your time when installing to be sure everything is in alignment & read the manual!! This is a moderately easy project for a do-it-yourself afternoon project. Great to have a friend lend a hand when it's time to hold the motor head up & attach the mounting bolts.
This opener is surprisingly quiet is your door is in proper alignment & moves easily by hand. My 2 car door opens & closes with the force set on the lowest level.
If your garage is finished (drywall ceiling) you will need a piece of angle iron (3 feet is more than enough no matter which way your joists run) to complete the installation. No opener I have ever installed comes with this piece. (See page 16 of the manual.)
Also handy to have a stud finder, socket set, drill, and a 60 or 75 watt lightbulb. Best not to use florescent bulbs in a garage door opener due to the short running time.
Everything else you need is in the box if you have a standard garage door.
Specialty doors (like solid wood) will need additional hardware.
Be sure your door has support struts to reinforce the door before installing an opener, or you risk damaging your door. YouTube has lots of videos on this subject.
