Comments about Generac® 5500 Watt GP Series Commercial/Residential Portable Generator (5736-0):
I use this generator for camping mostly but also use it for power outages. It always starts on the first or second pull, even after sitting 3 or 4 months. As far as the comment about it locking up after 4yrs. First off you should read the manual it states not to use 40w oil below 40 degrees. It suggests 30 or 10w30. Also you got 4yrs out of a [$] machine. At that price you can but 4 of them to last you 16yrs for the price you would pay for a Honda or Yamaha.

Used this during recent hurricane. Starts on first pull every time. Good on fuel. Ran lights, fans, fridge and freezer with enough power to help the neighbors keep their stuff cold too.

Comments about Generac® 5500 Watt GP Series Commercial/Residential Portable Generator (5736-0):
Easy to assemble, easy to start. And not as loud as my snowblower. I live in the northeast, but hurricanes have been known to do a lot of damage here. And now I will not be living in fear of them anymore!!!

I was cautious at first to buy this generator due to the bad review. I took my chances and I am glad I did. This generator works great on many of my projects. I would highly recommend this to other professionals looking for an affordable and dependable generator.

Comments about Generac® 5500 Watt GP Series Commercial/Residential Portable Generator (5736-0):
At first I thought this was a great machine. Little did I know it was a ticking time bomb ready to self destruct. After 4 years my 5500 watt generator froze up on me. I brought it to my local service mechanic and was told that this machine was not meant to last. They told me that the wrong kind of oil was put into the machine for use in the northeast. So, upon using it for the first time it was already in a destructive mode, scoring the internal engine parts. The oil they had in the machine wasn't intended for use below 40 degrees F and no one told me that upon purchase in New Hampshire. I continued to use the same oil thinking that whoever sold me the unit knew what they were doing. I bought it at [...]. I am more informed now. The unit is best served using synthetic oil. Generac seems to be a very good brand for the 7000 and up watt units. The smaller versions are said to be of a lesser quality. I am going to buy an 8000 watt unit and will use synthetic oil from start to finish. I am told that I should be very happy for the next 20 or so years. Good luck all..............
